beancounter - I am not expecting a conclusion to FO agreement by Friday. DW's interview after the last RNS said "weeks not months". I took this as meaning that an April date is now more likely. A good deal is better than a rushed deal imo.

Picardy - there are legal niceities to observe I suspect particularly for a period of grace to follow, allowing losing bidders to challenge the result. Over here in the UK there is an Austrian legal precedent so would not be surprised for something similar to exist over in Australia. I provide a couple of extracts and a link:

What is the standstill period?

Once the preferred bidder for a tender has been announced, a period of at least 10 days must elapse between the notification of the contract award and the signing of the contract.

The rules derive from the judgment in the case of Alcatel Austria v Bundesministerium fuer Wissenshaft und Verkehr (C-81/98).

The purpose of the period is to allow a window of opportunity for challenges to a contract award before the contract is entered into.

The provisions for standstill are contained in regulations 86 and 87 of the Public Contracts Regulations 2015 (PCR 2015).

The standstill notice

CAs must send a “standstill notice” (also referred to as an “award decision notice”/”regulation 86 notice” or an “Alcatel letter”) to all tenderers (those who have submitted a tender) and candidates (those who sought an invitation or were invited to take part in some procedure but not submitted a tender).

There are strict requirements as to the contents of the standstill notice. It must cover:

the criteria for the award of the contract;
the reasons for the decision including the characteristics and relative advantages of the successful tender. This should include a full breakdown of scores against each criterion and sub-criterion (for both the losing and winning bidder) with supporting explanation;
the reason (if any) why the economic operator did not meet the technical specifications;
the name of the tenderers to be awarded the contract/become party to the framework agreement; and
a statement of when the standstill period is expected to end.

Price on 11 March, ie the day before the Newcrest announcement, was 1.84p.

Only 1.87p now. The market seems to be saying it's an average deal. Market just seems bonkers sometimes. Maybe SB can explain!

Whatever happened to success or "failing fast"?

On my PC the SP is showing 0.825p while on my phone it has 0.875p. I had a look at all the trades back to 8am and all support the SP at the higher figure (up 6.71%). Same website just different platforms. Weird.

cat - in the interview DW said that, in terms of the preferred bidder, he would expect this to be concluded "within weeks not months" in a normal process. Others of course are waiting in the wings atm so hope all still on board if the preferred bidder is unable to conclude for some reason.

topofoz - good common sense - selection of a preferred bidder is obviously a key legal requirement in this particular instance, not a delaying tactic as some on here would have us believe, but all part of getting 88e to the end result.
