Good luck to those braving the markets today. Just be careful falling into the trap that it cannot go lower. Other good companies out there too that may have more positive news in the short term. Personally, I would have waited to here what further restrictions the government are announcing if you cannot sit on your hands any longer.
None of us are experts and price predictions are nothing more than guesses but I just cannot see anything other than negative influences at the moment making it difficult for LLOY and many others to reverse the trend.

A overdue market correction. How can world indices be at and in some cases above a level pre Covid? No logic to it. Money being printed and pumped into a market that has worsening fundamentals.
Trump is doing everything to keep the market in the US at an artificial level. All opinion of course, to be honest I haven’t got the balls to take that risk. I have invested through 3 financial crashes and have done very well out of them. However, this is unprecedented and the investment mentality is totally different.
More than happy to be wrong and although I would have missed out on a potential profit I certainly won’t lose any money.

Those results, even if better than anticipated will coincide with other news that will bury any positive outlook. Businesses and consumers like certainty and a plan. At the moment we have neither. We are still in a prolonged period of the unknown. This sector will suffer further falls.
I had 25p in mind for a good entry point for investing and expected it to be that price post results. We all think in round numbers of course but to be honest the bottom is anyone’s guess.
However, investors buying sub 30 pretty much have a profit guaranteed in time but too many at the moment are catching a falling knife. Buying in tranches is a good strategy but to buy thinking it cannot go any lower are admitting that they have got it wrong.
If the sp trend reverses after the results then great but I won’t lose any sleep missing out a 10 to 20% profit.

Bc, as we approach the inevitable second wave, what news do you expect in order to raise the current sp by 33%?

Trust me I am not jealous. Stated for weeks I’m sitting entirely on cash and avoiding the banking sector. I couldn’t give 2 hoots on how many shares another investor has but pointing out that someone who exposes themselves financially to the market should understand how the market works.
You don’t know what my financial position is in respect of dealing, property or capital wealth and certainly have no intention in posting it. In fact I see posting the amount you have is quite crass.
From experience, those who are the most reserved are usually the most affluent. They certainly don’t sit on a bb all day long policing other members comments.

Heard it all now. You would think an investor who has such a large holding would know how the market works. Private investors in a company as big as lloy with all the institutional investors onboard have no bearing on the direction of the share price. Private investors are cannon fodder here. Only use is to generate interest and keep the sp as high as possible chasing losses as they reduce exposure.
Institutions will lend any short sellers their shares. Not Bob Smith from Preston.

Fully agree. Other than a vaccine I cannot see anything positive in the near term and think the US elections is a potential banana skin for all markets.
Trump setting the scene for rigged elections should he fail to secure a second term. If the election is contested then I see a very big market correction. Balls of steel needed now to invest in many sectors.
Fwiw, I think it is the correct strategy to increase capacity in the Green energy sector whilst reducing oil capacity. That said we are a long way from not being oil dependent.

dividendchaser, I didn't say Brexit will have no affect but I feel many investors are missing the bigger picture with influences outside of the UK which will take it lower if there is more uncertainty in the world economy. Many posters have called my posts deramping and negative but I stand by everyone of them. It adds balance to the cries of 40p by Friday and the selective company sp comparisons that investors get on here at the weekend by Aspers.

Wait until Q1 figures are out in the US followed by Q2 estimates. Not to mention inevitable profit warnings. Dividends are the least to worry about now if I was holding banking shares.
Don’t get caught in the ‘Bull trap’ Imo above 30 is an opportunity to sell in order to re enter at sub 25.
What I post is irrelevant to the share price direction but don’t let the big boys out to come in later at the expense of your hard earned cash.

Guys, I wouldn't get too concerned about what will happen at the end of September. The markets will be more focused on the US Presidential Elections rather than Brexit talks. Worst case scenario is Trump to lose and then cry foul. He will contest the result if he loses and the markets will react accordingly.
I see support at this level but any further uncertainty will cause the sp to fall further, probably to new lows. Trump is already blaming Russia and China for influencing voters and claiming postal voting is corrupt. Sitting on cash until the end of November no matter how tempted I become at these levels.

Robbie, in December 2018 the price of oil was $47 a barrel. The share price at that time was a touch above £5. Maybe today the price should be somewhere between. Generally the sp does follow the PoO but you also have to take into consideration currency values. Institutions are also reducing their exposure to this sector. Demand going forward is also questionable as more so called green energy increases it's market share. There is also the affects of the pandemic on short term supply, the Presidential elections and world indices values which imo are due a correction.
Sentiment is probably at an all time low.

I have 2 EVs and can only charge 1 at a time. Domestic supply cannot cope with the additional load. I cannot always charge my EV if I am in France as it sometimes takes out a couple of my neighbours power.
I have just returned from Turkey in the Bodrum area and there are several BP garages in the coastal road. They are decades from having suitable infrastructure to allow mass charging. Even the U.K. would struggle to meet demand without a huge investment into the Grid.
Leaving aside terraced houses apartments and tower blocks having charge points at home is not that easy for many.
Additionally, there are still large areas of the planet without a basic electricity supply. Many still live off grid.
Just my opinion but BP are doing the right thing by green investments. They would be stupid to ignore the emerging market.
Not currently invested here but if you think BP is finished then you have your head buried up your hass

with that comparison then you would have lost half your capital and only made a £39 profit with CIR. Pity there are no gold producers or pharma companies in that list. You cannot compare like for like when your trolley is full of apples, pears and spuds. The reality is LLOY is 25.9p

Patrao, likewise and hope your team brings a little light to a frustrating couple of weeks. My posts to many on here will be seen as 'deramping' or unnecessarily negative but I did post my views back in March when I sold at a loss. From memory I think you went all in at 30p when with hindsight it would have been better dripping in your hard earned cash over a period of time.
Sometimes it easy to fall into the trap that 'it cannot go much lower' but the reality of it is that it usually does. Covid aside there are too many uncertainties with LLOY and the banking sector generally. US elections, Brexit, dividends, borrowing rates, share consolidation.... Having traded through 3 market crashes I have learnt from experience that the money to be earned is on the other side.
I have no doubt you will make a profit and probably a good one but it is down to your own expectations and timeframe that will be key. Sit it out and trust your own instincts and enjoy the Spurs games in the meantime.

I know investors will make money here buying at these levels but I don’t believe because the sp is nearing all time levels then it must be oversold and not likely to go further down.
I took a big hit here selling at 38p and posting my rationale. I believed that we were being drawn into a bull trap whilst the ‘city’ were reducing their exposure to this sector.
Again just opinion but the best case scenario (short term) is the outlook is already factored into the current trading range.
Again, I will look at Lloyds as an investment post US elections.

I find it difficult to use historical share price movements when we are in (not over) a deteriorating economy with no current light at the end of the tunnel.
The reaction to this virus is unprecedented.
Coming out of the last financial crisis our economy was robust and improving year in year. I would like a crystal ball in order to see when we are back to a level pre Covid-19

The greedy sods may be coming back to make a profit but at what price will it be at. From experience, it is better to catch a sp on the rise rather than on a fall. I posted a few weeks ago that imo, the Presidential Election in the US will be a big influence on the ftse in the short term. Probably more than Brexit.

'Let's be honest we slowly been drifting down since January'

This is being honest, the sp has plummeted since January' a vaccine will be found but imo it is the damage that has already been done. Returned to the UK for a short break over the weekend. My local town looks like its been evacuated. Good century old business's all ceased trading. Very sad to see.
