I have never questioned Budge’s integrity. I think he’s a good bloke.
But, and it is a significant but, when you are CEO it is your efficacy which must be validated by tangible, quantifiable achievement.
In this respect, he falls well short, in my opinion.
The application was lodged 18 months before he was appointed. Five and a half years later, he is in exactly the same position - waiting with no idea when or if a decision will come.
That I have a problem with. Being a good bloke is not enough. He has never progressed beyond repairing the damage with the locals, which he achieved four years ago.
As I would say about any CEO, if you are unable to achieve the overriding objective in your brief, maybe someone else can. The question now needs asking, in my opinion.
