It’s felt like purdah here this week….

As you would expect there’s lots of disinformation about China. But as far as renewables go it’s perfectly rational for them pursue. They know coal is filthy and they’re perfectly aware of being reliant on other countries to supply their energy needs.

Politics aside …they’re just getting on with it.

China produced the most renewable energy in the world, leading in both total generation and new capacity additions, according to sources from October 2025. It has an installed renewable capacity of around 1,453 gigawatts, primarily from solar and wind power.

Total production: China generates 32% of the world's renewable electricity.

Capacity growth: China added almost 350 GW of renewable capacity in 2023, which was two-thirds of the global total. It also has twice as much wind and solar capacity under construction as the rest of the world combined.

Dominance in new energy: China's addition of new solar and wind capacity has outpaced its rising electricity demand, helping to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels

Which could also mean they’re close to agreeing an outcome.

I’ve never understood how FIG could legally tax something that has never been received
