so for a nice autistic view to cheer you all up! From everything that has been said in the last 24 hours and especially at the news conference everything in the medium term is left to play for. Lindy always know the only way to compete was a long term DNA solution which is what we have always be aiming for from day one. So for us nothing has changed. A more durable universal vaccine is what will be required once a year like the flu vaccine as well as the need to vaccinate large swathes of the world population who have not even had one dose. Roll on the results and the reaction to them.
loads of day to day things are slower at the moment. just a frustrating fact of post covid life.
this also ties in with Javid's announcement on Covid long-term strategy in UK which is due around the same time. From day one a long term solution was always Lindy's aim. It seems we are suffering from general downgrade in 'Covid' stocks. Novavax for example has seen a drop from over to $300 in initial excitement from Cepi deal to settling at$200 and in last 8 weeks has collapsed to $90. It started at $5 by the way. On our covid play long way to go and on a universal vaccine as far as i can see we are ahead of the game with a live trial on the go
not that i expect anything by the way. just saying though
Could you think of a better day for the government to announce a universal vaccine that they had originally invested in.
Well TF lucky you don't live here isn't it. Different countries, different culture. Every stage of lockdown has to be paid for and then no one wants to be the one paying for it. So many cases of Covid happening in hospital and so many unvaccinated who work there passing it on. Then massive demonstrations against sacking the unvaccinated. Putin will invade Ukraine soon. At least that will change the news. Then of course, Gas prices will surge further again and everyone will moan about that blaming the government as usual.
totally agreed. being the patented global long-term annual jab like the flu jab would be a rather good place to be.
TF, first of all, my main point was that because the government is on the back foot, we could benefit as a good news story to deflect the bad news. Secondly i have always said the western world are all relatively close in terms of DPM, (Europe and the Americas) are within 20% or so of each other, so to pick on UK is just an anti Boris, anti Tory point scoring exercise. Yes Japan have come out of this well but we are not Japanese or South East Asian.
So not long to go until interim results and potential update on SA trial. For me what is interesting is how the government has changed its tone on the way it is dealing with the Pandemic as to how we are going to live with covid. It seems to be free to communicate what it knows about a universal vaccine. 4th jabs seems to be off the table and long term solutions are now the order of the day. The facts are the government did invest in our project and there could be good political capital to be gained from broadcasting this and getting fully behind our vaccine if the interim results come good. What better than a universal vaccine with better durability for helping us live with the virus. I am sure there are many different views on 'partygate" here and for me whatever happens happens but what is for me beyond doubt is that the government vaccine strategy from day 1(March 2020) has helped us get of this mess and Covidity is an evolvement of this as a long term solution to living with the virus.
In his new role as pro vice chancellor at the university I suggest he would be very involved representing the university in whatever transpires
ok lets put it another way.
Prominent UK government Covid expert and TV personality rejoins Nottingham University in anticipation of successful 2nd generation Covid vaccine trial.
As I said earlier timing is no coincidence
yes its really interesting timing that JVT is going back to Nottingham just as interim results are going to be announced for our trial at the end of the month. If it works it will also be massive for Nottingham and Trent Universities. I personally don't believe in coincidences and his weight and reputation as a worldwide expert in Covid and with all his worldwide contacts will do the joint venture only good.
21/21.5
i just find it amazing that everyone just blames the government automatically without us Brits actually looking at ourselves. During the first lockdown I was working at Tescos fulfilling internet orders. It was obvious when I was supplying for a party. 20 plates, cups and serviettes and 6 bottles of champagne with appropriate snacks just before VE day just for 2 examples. Even if numbers are counted in a similar way across the countries the fact we might be 10% to 20% higher than the other major western countries is personal behaviour not government policy. And now we are looking how to pay back the billions borrowed to keep the country going no one wants to pay for it as cost of living crisis dominates the news. We are mostly self centred and the delight on here when Lindy comes out with positive interim results, me included, only proves it.
Roses. Totally agree.
Kashdog, i always caveat everything I say with 'as long as it works' but Lindy was hoping to tell us something at end of Jan which coincides with interims.I have held my shares for years and have plenty. also what Cars says below is correct, she did mention possibility of selling the platform so Covidity trial is part of due diligence lets say. The world needs a working covidity and if not that something similar so lets just be optimistic for humanity's sake it does and the fact we could benefit so handsomely is just a nice consequential for the relative small number of PIs there are.
the announcement of half year results at end of January ties in nicely when Lindy suggested we would have interim results from SA trial. if it work it will give very quickly because it will be too big for us to handle so end of Jan could be significant.
Chester. the interesting point about his casual remark this afternoon was that he mentioned the government had invested in it, which of course that have in ours. I have often wondered what would happen to our SP if we got a full blown nationally televised press conference. I think there is a lot going on in the background pending results of the trial including our government , a major pharma and finally Cepi for global distribution because was is now one of the hot topics until the world is vaccinated this will not go away and unless the vaccine lasts longer this will never be possible. Then i tell myself que sera sera.
Johnson has just said 'polyvariant' (universal) vaccines are key part of strategy going forward. Game on!
we will get the publicity when our results come out
Multivariant Covid-19 vaccine booster shows promise, early trial data suggests
A Covid vaccine booster aimed at tackling multiple variants shows promise in inducing a comprehensive immune response, early data suggests.
The first results of a phase one trial, launched in Manchester in September 2021, reveal the jab has strong levels of neutralising antibodies.
They are similar to approved mRNA vaccines (like Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna), but at up to a 10-fold lower dose in the first 10 individuals, the research indicates.
According to the data the vaccine was generally safe and well-tolerated.
The jab is being trialled with the anticipated involvement of 20 people aged 60 and over, who were in good health and previously received two doses of the Oxford/AstraZeneca jab.
The findings are published by US-based biotechnology company Gritstone bio, Inc. in collaboration with the University of Manchester and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.
