I disagree about preemptive moves, we don’t do it in law I.e arrest people of a certain profile because data suggests, we don’t walk about with an erect umbrella unless it actively raining etc etc the reason IMO we must wait for the data are for the other harms as described by wizard, such as every other disease, impact on mental health (male suicide rates are through the roof currently), impact and SME’ the largest collective employer in the UK.

IF your going to damage those aforementioned things your surely need complete, impartial data with which to balance a decision.

Just for fun I’ll throw this fact at you the uk’ information commissioner ordered the government to release the complete impact statements in relation to the last two lockdowns to the public by 30-11-21, as yet the government hasn’t complied.

I hope they balanced the decisions competently as the current 150k covid deaths could well be dwarfed by the “all other disease” deaths, cancer referrals are circa 500k below normal levels, sure hope cancer has gone away. That’s without all the others.

I take your point on board regarding the role of the government and it’s advice and it would obviously be dangerous to roll the dice given the numbers involved.

My answer in response however is short and sweet, I believe our government should have made / make its decisions on our behalf based on impartial, verfiable and accurate data.

I accept this may lead to a tardy response in some instances for eg delta, on the flip side we would avoid damaging knee jerk reactions such as the current restrictions.

Fully acceptable for individuals to come down one side or the other of this discussion. I don’t however believe it is at all in the public interest to have a government who is taking a private companies data as gospel, especially when everything around the advise is vaccine based.

Yeah this is getting beyond a joke now, Boris (aka the pig) bought these restrictions in on the back of a corporation’s data (who incidentally have advised a booster it the only way forward, I wonder why) the actual data does / will show this variant is not a problem. I just hope when it does the government has enough integrity to act accordingly…..of this I have little faith however.

Says it all really, these restrictions were imposed on the back of Pfizer data, LBC just played a quote from our health secretary’s response when asked in parliament to provide the data on which the decision to impose these plan b restrictions were made. Welcome to the new fascist UK state.

JG68 - I know mate, it is truly gruesome to have been in here for the period we have been, who could have thought back in April/May that this was to play out….it will turn however and we will bounce hard to well over £1, have no idea when sadly. With Boris (aka the pig) being on paternity leave (lucky timing) Omicron data being amassed globally and specifically in SA which is a couple of weeks ahead of everyone else. Boris (aka the pig) could decide to shift the “Overton window” by trying to return as the “great liberator” and armed with the data decide to lift all restrictions and proclaim the pandemic over!!!

He is definitely in very deep s**t and could decide that this is the Hail Mary that will save his carrier…

SA let’s not forget has a very low vaccination rate and whilst infection is running wild the hospitalisations and deaths are not!!! The deaths we are seeing in SA and across the world I suspect are down to Delta and with Omicron replacing it they will dry up (God willing).

This trough which is either politically fuelled or as a result of an abundance of pragmatism could be over much quicker than we think.

JG68 - I agree cine has been a nightmare for the last 6months I’m massively under water currently, so far in fact that I’d rather see this go to zero than sell….all that said, mark my words, Omicron WILL end covid. Will Omicron end the political weaponisation of the NHS or restrictions, your guess is as good as mine.

My opinion is that we will have a further 2-4 weeks of nightmare’s at that point the government will have to lockdown or ease or something I can’t imagine, by the end of January-mid February the evidence that Omicron isn’t a thing will be un-deniable and they will have no choice than to ease of any restrictions in place and we will begin to return to normalcy.

All in my opinion.
