@Sandyman: no one can tell with great certainty how low or how high the markets can go but I can say this with a great degree of certainty that jokers like you are bound to appear on these chat boards fear mongering more often when the share price is going down rather up

Agree with @stumpy, people start jumping around when a short appears. imo they don't merit much attention until at least they are over 5% of the total float. Just look at sainsbury's; been a highly shorted stock over the years, no material impact on share price

I don't personally think CEO is a 'baboon', he's just not cut for a CEO role. I am sure he's analytic and all but doesn't exude the confidence of a company leader. I think English not being his first language also doesn't help.

About the company not doing well etc., I think most of it is due to share price performance. People tend to associate share price performance with how well the company is performing but those two things are not always in synch and can remain out of synch for a long time, as is the case here. There are no questions on the survival of the company even if don't get to sell NASB. The problem comes when people are reluctant to invest money in a downturn in a company which isn't going to turn overnight. There are so many better companies to invest where capital return potential is similar but have no debt issues and are paying dividend. So sadly, unless either of these things change for MCG, they are going to be at the bottom of pile for IIs.

@Pokerchips: for someone so active on this board, you surely got to have a position on this stock so for full disclosure are you long or short? or are all these comments just to educate posters?

@GoCPI: I am often wrong! so if I am reading this correctly, what you are saying is that the £546m was scheduled to be used up by 31/03/25 and an extension to this contract is for further 2 years until March 2027, value of that extension up to £175m?

If that's the case, this is a good deal for CPI, probably worth £7-8m EBIT this year, which hopefully will help get us FCF positive earlier.

Lots of confusing comments around this; somehow it looks clear to me - Capita has got additional £33m out of this existing contract, presumably to cover for their target margins which were very low in the previously approved contract

At Half-year point guidance was £620-660m

At Jan update guidance is £620-650m

This is only 1.5% down on the top range and same at lower end.

@Poker: I don't disagree with most of your points but for full disclosure, do you have any personal connection with Garat or any of the BoDs? The reason I ask is that people say lot of dumb things in these forums and your responses are generally measured except when anyone point the finger on MCG mgmt, in which case you react aggressively.

Almost all shareholders are frustrated with the share price performance and not all fault can be attributed to the mgmt but comparisons with First Group are valid arguments, they too had to face similar pressures. I haven't looked it up but pretty sure MCG is the only company in FTSE250 which hasn't even notified when the results are going to be published even in the first week of March. The management communication used to be bit better under Dean.

Aim keeps quoting Richard Staveley and mentioning his stake in the company. For avoidance of doubt, please be aware that his fund's stake in CPI is not 3.5%, it is his portfolio percentage. It is a circa £100m portfolio so a £3.5m stake which equates to 1.5% cpi stake. Still a decent holding nevertheless.

I don't think MCG has any plans for cross channel railway; Cosmen was trying to enter in that via his other business, unless I understood it completely wrong

Thanks Lara; nothing new which is expected as he can't divulge anything material without it being a rns. Still, refreshing to hear the stinging criticism of the German deal indirectly. It also seems like they have not yet secured the extension of concessions from Spanish government which would mean that ALSA is likely to slow down this year if those concessions are not forthcoming so we desperately need the NASB sale to go through.

I don't think acquisition costs come out of P&L. I am not sure what tangibles you refer to for £35m - all jiggory pokery is already deducted from EBIT. I would be very surprised if they declared statutory loss.
