RE: Zero Justification For Such A Dip (Though Appears Industry-Wide)...16 Mar 2026 18:11
You just pulled the number 35% out of thln air didn't you? Power is currently listed as 10% of total operating costs. Plus only about 70-80% of that is linked directly to oil/diesel. Overall impact is more likely to increase AISC by $15 per oz for each 10% increase in POO.
Plus gold still around $900 per oz higher than the average for Q4. So maybe not the end of the world ATM.
Major - My Iower limit would be a multiple of about 3. Historically MTL was about this level until LOM in the Philippines became concern. Sad but true that UK mining stocks are very undervalued. Still means an upside of 25-30p in the near term when La India comes online.
It's easy to get down on days like this. To cheer myself up I just crunch the numbers for our net earnings at the end of 2027. Assuming PoG at $5k per oz (sorry Major!), our P/E at todays SP would be 1.6. At a lowly P/E of 3 our SP would have to rise to 25p 😎
AuInspired - I understand the sentiment, but it's still good for us that DB is rolling out the red carpet for the big investors. He wants to impress them so they put their hands in their pockets. If it has the desired effect it will raise the SP.
14.75p. The 15.6p is an aberration from the closing UT. Represents less than 1% of usual volume so unlikely to be reflected in the opening SP tomorrow morning. One can always hope though 🙂
Was expecting a rapid move up after the TO news, so bought back in yesterday at 165.5p after selling out at 150p. Great timing on my part 😎 Guess the market doesn't like the deal much after all.
Great analysis Lee 🙂 Always impressed by the knowledge on this BB.
Let's hope when Runruno is packed up and dispatched that the destination will be overseas as opposed to the Philippines. That way we'll have all the fun [and arguements] associated with watchjng the ship on MarineTraffic 😆
... FWIW, the full list was: CNR[!], SRB, CMCL, HZM, TORXF, WAF, RSG [!!], and PREM. I haven't looked at all these in detail but know some of these are in even more risky jurisdictions than MTL.
Hi Major- Bizarrely I consider MTL one of the safest bets in the UK markets given the upside. However, you mention there may be even better and safer junior miners worth considering. I would be interested to know which - I'm always keen for good tips 😎
ElectricLion - Yeah, perhaps I misinderstood what Surrey was saying. Came across as a bit of criticism of accumulating more MTL shares. I haven't got 23m shares yet 😆, so seems like good strategy 🤔
LMA - Likewise have picked up 100k @13.82 a few minutes ago. Will keep adding each time it drops another 0.5p. Sure this will be above 20p come first gold pour.
