Australia-listed Strata-X Energy has submitted an environmental management plan as it looks to drill and test up to 20 wells at its Serowe coalbed methane project in Botswana.
Strat-X confirmed Tuesday(today) it had filed the environmental management plan with Botswana’s Department of Environmental Affairs, covering highgraded portions of its 100%-owned project.
It noted that some previously drilled wells flowed or bubbled fee gas from the targeted coal reservoirs within the highgraded area, which it said could only occur from 100% saturated coalbeds.
According to Strata-X, higher saturated coalbeds require less water drawdown and, therefore, usually produce initial gas flows more quickly than undersaturated coalbeds.
The company said it expected to receive regulatory approval for its environmental programme during the third quarter of the year.
This will clear the way for the appraisal programme which will focus on proving commercial completion methods and converting resources at the project to reserves.
Strata-X is looking to develop the 1.4 trillion cubic feet of prospective resources estimated to lie within the Serowe CBM project area, which spans 273,000 acres.
If Strata-x get these approvals it would give me confidence that the BG are still well up for backing CBM production, tho I think Strata are kidding themselves on thinking the BG will approve within 3 months lol..
