It was all about Apple nos yesterday as the Co beat consensus views. Despite falling IPhone sales down c12% revenues of $54bn in Q3 were 1% ahead helped by 'wearables' and services. OP cash flow of $11bn and Apple returned c.$21bn to holders by way of buybacks and dividends ($3.6bn). Apple stock shaded -90c to $209.
Crude was above $58 first time in months as Iran exports skidded to just 100,000 bopd. At close the Dow was off 23 (27198)
S&P fell 8 (3013), techs down 20 (8274) but R2 up 17 (1587).

In Asia what little optimism there was for progress in trade talks was rudely interrupted by a series of Trump tweets.
He criticised China for not buying enough US agri products, took credit for slowing their economy and said China was stalling to agree a deal until the 2020 elections.

The whole region is solidly in the red, TK -139, HK -313 & SH off 16 along with Pan Pacifics.
In S.Korea the kospi fell 1% on news of N.Korea testing more short range missiles. Samsung fell c.2% on Q2 profits decline.

Currently $509.10 (+40c).

Substantial holdings (6 funds have holdings over 5%) of ordinary shares amount to 73% of the 40,500,000 outstanding as of 2018.

A tad more interest here today, 5 bargains/6591 traded, shares up 7 to 112. Palm closed slightly up at $508.70. All good.

Topped up here on a two year view cannot be more positive than that given past history of losses and palm price declines.
But nothing goes down forever though long- termers who still hold might take a lot of persuasion! Anyways the outlook looks better for the CPO
price and harvesting looks on the up / ahead this year to perhaps 900,000+ tons. Should the price av $525 through to end 2019 r.e.a. could be in the blue for the first time since..... well yonks.

Only a nominal amount left here now, enuff so as I can cont my involvement here. I Have added to my palm thingy (4k) 50% share which i see as a better all round prospect in the medium term. The spread is a killer but with only 40m in issue and a small f/f, you def have to look 2 years + out minimum. Should be right up G's street of long term suffererers! Only kidding. Pays your money takes...

CPO price $508.30.

£$ has fallen from 1.34 to current 1.22 over 1 year which is good for $ earners like G, exporters and manufacturers, not so good for those going on holiday (the £€ has seen similar falls over one year). In $ terms thats a c.9% currency gain for G and should it fall to parity by
Y/E thats a 25% gain.

That looks unlikely but heh not so long ago you were getting £1.50+ to the buck so I wouldn't rule anything out especially if we crash out of the EU.

Sterling fell to a two year low against the $ (1.223) as London stocks had their best day in months the ftse rising 138 to (7687) that's 103 off 52 wk high (7790).
Main talking point was the $27bn offer for Refinitiv a financial data platform provider by the LSE. Brent was little changed on the session at $63.39 as 'no deal' is rapidly coming to a head. Sterling is being valued on a no deal basis not the UK economy (better than Euroland) so expect a further lurch down if we leave with empty pockets.

In the US the Dow was up 40 odd as London closed with decliners outpacing risers by 1480-1318 at 2.00pm US time. Boeing, Dow Inc & Pfizer led the fallers, 3M & Intel topped the leaders while Disney hit a record high and Apple report after close today.
At close the Dow was up 29 (27221) vol of 266.6m in a tight 100 range, while the S&P and Nsdq posted small losses.
Q2 earnings cont to surprise and CEOs are in the main positive about earnings into Q3. Crude gained 30c to $57.16 and the 10Y/T bill fell to 2.056%.

In Asia stocks are on the up awaiting the start of talks today. TK +146 (techs) SH +21 the STAR mrkts 25 all gained on Monday. Vol on the main SHCOMP was 13bn shares traded and Huawei reports this wk (expected to outsell Samsung in handsets shortly).
In HK the HS was drifting off highs (property, insurance & electricals). The Hang Seng is c.550 points down since the Civil unrest started.
The Bank of Japan left rates u/c ahead of an expected 0.25% cut in the US on Wed.

Bojo visits Scotland prt of the 'awesome foursome' today. Ruth Davidson is no fan of Boris and a staunch opposer of a no deal exit. He needs the support of the 13 Scottish Tory MPs if he is to get anything through Parliament.

The implementation of biodiesel
(10% palm/90% diesel) which was mandatory since Feb 2019
will cont to have a positive impact on prices. Consumption is set to rise to 800,000 tons by year end.
The stock of Malaysia palm has been drastically reduced from c.7m tons to just 2.4m tons.

Palm is lower in Far East trading at the start of wk 31. Currently at $507.30.

China US trade talks will resume on Tuesday in Shanghai. Expectations for a breakthrough on intellectual property, Huawei and agriculture are slim.
In China industrial profits declined 3% in June from a 1% gain in May the NBS reported. Yen/$ at 108 and WTI $ 56.13 Brent $ 63.24.
The main Shanghai index was little changed.

HK is off 342 reacting to the continuing violence in central HK for the 8th wk end in succession. Property stocks were hammered and it's expected the riots will impact negatively on the local economy. Q2 GDP nos will be reported later this wk. Other Pan Pacifics are all lower.
Singapore has already seen money flowing in from HK and some Cos are considering locating there.

Agreed Hasiba. He's a winner twice elected Mayor of a 99.9% labour voting city and likely to swing undecided Brexiteers to the Tory cause, ie the Faragines.
I think voters will give him the benefit of doubt and after all most of us like a personable fellow. At least the 'blues' selected the right man. I doubt Mogodon Man could have galvanised the party to start believing again.

Boris takes a £670,000 pay cut to take up the PMs post worth £150,400 pa.
Based on official figs he earned c.£830,000 last year from his DT column,
salary, public speaking and royalties on books.

The British prime minister is one of the poorest paid in the world behind Iceland and Liechenstein so most ex PMs try and coin it in after leaving office. Not the case here.
Bojo is taking a massive earnings cut for way more hours worked and lots more stress.

He sure must want the job. Still while living in No 10 he will be exempt from any increase in value on his main home for cap gains purposes. However he can comfort himself as he has several properties.
A house in Camberwell, a farm house in Oxfordshire,
a 20% stake in a property in Somerset and he recently sold his house in Islington for £3.75m which was jointly owned.
