Is Boris about to re-think hoofing out those Tory MPs who defied the Whips by voting with the opposition?
Led by the 'lofty' Grieve (determined to overturn the referendum result) happily ensconced in his palatial chateaux in the Brittany countryside, its a bit rich for him to lecture the electorate on how misguided they were in voting to leave. His constituency voted 49% leave 51% remain so hardly a massive endorsement for 'loftys' remain crusade.

I trust Boris will send him packing forthwith.

Stocks in the Far East jumped on the news of trade talks resuming in October and easing tensions in HK.
In NY mrkts had a good day bouyed by news that the British Parliament had ruled out a 'no deal' Brexit.
The Dow gained 237 to (26355) the S&P 32 (2938)
and the techs up 103 to
(7977).

Far East & Pan Pacifics are all ahead, the Nikkei up 463, HK +101 & SH gaining 46 (3003). The ftse is called 28 better at open the Dow + 296.

Indonesia is likely to regain mrkt share in the coming months as it provides crude palm oil cheaper than Malaysia.
In recent months Malaysia surpassed Indo as the bigest supplier to India due to the duty advantage.
Currently India imposes a 45% duty on refined products versus 40% for crude.
India will now raise the duty by 5% on refined palm to 50% in an attempt to curb imports and boost local refiners. This extra duty will stay in place till March 2020. In the H/Y to 2019 India imported 1.57 mt from Malaysia.

This duty hike will prompt Indian buyers to switch to crude palm oil. Indonesia traditionally claimed 66% of Indias palm imports, followed by soyoil from Argentina & Brazil as well as sunflower from Russia.

Spread, commission + stamp duty! ( not vat)

Hence the lack of vol or trades.
Before you break even your faced with a 10% spread, vat and commission adding to the already onerous cost. We cannot account for robbers...oops jobbers, pricing of stocks which change with the weather or more likely arriving at work with a sore head.
Spreads like many small Aim companies see hardly encourage trade which the jobbers are loathe to make markets in. Many years ago I invested in a stock whose spread often went to 200p
when a couple of hundred shares were bought a month. Needless to say deals were infrequent.
We need a better more competitive system for pricing stocks whose prices rarely equate to company performance, profits, dividends and returns on equity. Regretfully under the current system change is not a priority or likely to ever change.
Is it any wonder companies are seeking to delist and return to the private sector?

The majority of the 21 MPs given the heave-ho by Bojo voted against the wishes of their constituencies. By voting against the Tory Party they clearly sided with the opposition benches.
Good riddance I say.

US stocks in the red all day, closed off lows (25978) to end down 285
(26118). Manufacturing contracting in August for the first time in 3 years was the main negative along with trade, tariffs & tweets.

Better in Asia on back of the Caxin China services index suggesting domestic demand had overtaken foreign.
TK up 55 HK gaining 337 and SH up 11 all towards close.
London called up 32 at open with the Dow +150.

Only MPE posted a gain today (+9). REA off 1 after 2 price monitoring exercises today. These seem to be occurring regularly these days. DKL, AEP & EPA remained unchanged.
CPO was off c$6 to $ 559.50 and IDR 14225.

The Govt face a crucial vote on "no deal" today.
A number of Tory rebels will defy Boris, effectively crossing to the opposition benches to vote down a no deal exit.
That will end their careers as Tory MPs as they will be stripped of the party whip and barred from fighting the next election.
One Mr Burt MP for N.Beds will be defying the Govt, as well as his constituency who voted to leave. Mr Burt intends going into the 'No' Lobby.

If Parliament votes to hand control of the legislative timetable to the opposition today a Gen Election could take place on Oct 14th. The PM has left no-one in any doubt that this afternoon's vote would be treated as a confidence vote and any Tory MP voting against the party will face the consequences.
Consensus is the Govt will be defeated.

US mrkts were closed for Labour day but Dow futures were mixed to lower as the latest round of 15% extra tariffs kicked in on c.$112bn of Chinese goods.
China retaliated by extra duties on imports of crude oil and soybean among others. More tit for tat tariff hikes are scheduled for Oct1 & Dec 15.
Asian bourses are very quiet with TK up 20, HK and SH both marginally lower reacting to the 4th straight month of sluggish
Chinese factory output.

London is called up 11 (60% of clients short the ftse and Dow +32 (64% short the Dow).

CPO has opened lower $564.10.

World veg oil mrkts have been mixed of late, palm oil futures cont to move higher while soybean moved lower.
Demand for palm is increasing as the USD remains strong and Malaysia has seen increased export production in Jly over June with Aug holding firm.
The weather ytd has been good for palm but soy has been hit by dry weather on the prairies where growing conditions rated less than 50% good to excellent.
Soybean futures have fallen from $1050 back in 3/2018 to current $843.
