The 500 posted its bigest gain since March as 8 of the reporting 500 companies beat Walls earnings estimates. BOA, Wells, M.Stanley & Citigroup all topped expectations. The banks painted a healthy picture as borrowers are willing to take on more debt. Boosting sentiment job claims fell below 300,000 for the first time since the pandemic and bond yields eased below 1•600%.
All 11 sectors of the 500 were ahead led by strong gains in tech, Google up $71, Msoft +$6 and Apple gained $2 helped the Nsdq put on 278. Investors were back seeking bargains after recent falls, Healthcare were sought, United Health gained $16 on earnings beats but Virgin Galactica stock slumped 11% due to delays to its commercial space flights being pushed back to Q4 2022. Wallgreens, United Health & Intel topped the big board and just 2 losers on the 30, Boeing and Merck.
Metals improved with Gold and Silver testing 4wk highs as inflationary pressures are bullish for metals as history shows. The resistance ranges for Gold are on the upside $1837 and downside $1750.
Oils gained on IEA raising growth demand forecasts for 2022 and 'easing' tight supplies. Russia sees oil & gas demand growing in the years ahead and forecasts oil to be c.60% of the global energy mix through to 2050 and not the 25% forecast by some experts.
