To be fair to AZN there decision was based before Covid-19 and the discovery of people with interferon related inborn errors/autoantibodies.

Horby was the one 1st time round that decided to remove SNG001 from recovery for supply/ramp up reasons. A big mistake in many peoples eyes considering what happened with P2 results but a reason you could understand at the time.

Maybe there is some previous history/argument/competition between Southampton/Oxford boys and the reluctance to take up SNG001. Who knows? Seems to me when you have multiple steroids/anti flams for severe stage it makes sense to also trial a drug for early hospital stage to prevent people going into ICU etc.

Problem is so little info and transparency is available so maybe we are assuming too much but with history of SNG001 you do have to wonder if games are being played.

Yes I expect the MHRA to sanction it too Org30.

The sensible decision would have been what the AZN CEO said and get more half/full dose data then with the extra patient numbers come back and get approval. This government is a walking disaster.

This will surely be a spectacular own goal for vaccine takeup in this country. The MHRA are being pressured into approving a vaccine based on cherry picked and obviously poor data. All this after AZN CEO has admitted they need to do further trials.

The MHRA are in a no win situation. If they approve then their credibility is shot especially when the FDA will likely ask for more data. If they deny then everyone thinks the vaccines sucks.

What a stupid decision by the government, this will make not just anti vax but most of the vaccine hesitant say no to a vaccine.

- an anti-inflammatory drug
- widely used for acute gout and other conditions such as pericarditis

Looks like Synairgen may have been passed over in favour of Colchicine. No wonder Tom W and so many were perplexed at the decision of Recovery.

If memory serves he already contracted Covid-19 so probably thinks hes immune. Very similar guy to Trump.

As Vallance alluded to the other night, as you implement vaccines and other measures to eradicate the virus you will see it mutate more to survive. This is expected in nature.

He did mention though rate of mutation is less than the flu so there is some good news in that regard.

Yes the earlier you give interferon in the viral phase the more likely it prevents Covid-19 getting serious. The Chinese for example back in January gave IFN to medical staff and had not 1 symptomatic case developed. https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.04.11.20061473v2

Synairgen are chasing 2 distinct stages of the Covid-19 treament stage.

Hospitalisation phase for moderate patients
The P3 trial is targeting WHO ORD scale 4 patients only ie patients in hospital who have just started taking supplemental oxygen. This will fill the biggest therapy need currently for Covid-19 as there is nothing effective we can use. Remdesivir has largely been proven to be ineffective.

Prevention after postive PCR test (Home use)
There is a seperate home trial that we are told is being setup in USA with FDA backing. Additionally the Prof Fish trial in Chile which 'may' have Synairgen come onboard.

This is just yet more fear mongering from the derampers without it actually being researched. Budesonide is standard of care already.

Budesonide/formoterol is the current standard of care anyway in a number of countries like France and has been from near start of the pandemic. There are loads of trials since start of the year running so it is nothing new.

NCT04331054 trail for example is looking for better drugs than Budesonide to give Covid-19 patients.

I disagree Dumbpunter the P3 trial should be exacly as Synairgen designed. The mild/moderate hospitalised stage is where there is currently no decent drug available for use. Synairgen are looking the best suited drug for this stage and there is few others in competition.

They need a drug to
a) Prevent progression to severe stage and ICU admission
b) Get people recovered faster and prevent long covid symptoms. This prevents repeat hospitalisation which is common theme of covid patients.
c) Ease patient symptons ie breathlessness.

Essentially Synairgen are positioning their drug to have best chance of commercial success.

Nope as the data is bad. The AZN CEO has just announced they will probably need to run a new trial which puts back the AZN vaccine many months.

If they rerun the AZN trial and they get a high 90% effiacy number what sensible person will believe the data? What intelligent person will even take the jab?

Utter disaster for the AZN vaccine, will seriously impact takeup and the anti vax crew will have a field day.

Lets hope for no surprises with Moderna or Phizer

With regards to the 26 countries much of the expertise/red tape navigation is provided by Paraxel. If you check their global reach and locations it matches many of the locations in the trial design.

I think some people believe its just Richard and his team dealing with the entire world. People are forgetting we are using a specialist and expensive 3rd party to do the global trial.
