All companies have to assess the value of goodwill on their balance sheets at year end as a matter of routine - alongside impairment of assets and onerous leases and non recoverable receivables.
Why is the write off such a big deal. To have concealed the goodwill on the balance sheet when it was perceived to have negligible value would have been fraudulent.
But so easy to make such a big play to the detriment of PIs and SP - many PIs having stop losses set up.

There can be no prospect of stability whilst the HOC & HOL continue to exist. There will be trouble ahead in the EU and that will impact here.
