To pay a dividend the bod are obliged to redirect monies which could be better spent on the business which would then be reflected in a growing share price. Companies that pay dividends can feel it is 'noose' restricting how they develop the business. GRG as an example, have always paid a very low div. if any as their bod consider they can put any surplus monies to better use. I want my investments to grow in value with or without divs. JJ

Bramley its always good to take a decent profit, and in your case the mortgage debt is reduced, a win win.
As an aside on the mortgage as you will not have paid off that chunk yet its well worth reading the small print as you may be best repaying say 10% now with further payments down the line. You can be penalized if you pay off 'too much' in one go. You may have done your homework but it may help someone else. No one wants to give away hard earned monies. JJ

Theo, 'been out and just seen your message. I agree with you, as my comment was in response to the banter about an offer. However I would hope that Carlyle are able to talk to Dan, or his Rep. to see if their opening bid is likely to be rejected/recommended or something in between.
