The first floor was bright and modern in both the layout and products on sale. But strangely very few shoppers to be seen. I bought what I came for and headed for the cafe, it was busy. When talking to the salesperson who served me earlier, he agreed it was quiet. M&S open this store at 8am but the rest of Wycombe shops appear to open at 9 or later. I would understand the food hall being open at 8 but the whole store? The cheese scone was excellent and popular, plus if I come back by 9 May I get another one free; I will be back as I have to get a blood test. Food for thought! JJ

Its not so much about running short of money but more about the 'climate'. When you find all your mates grumbling about the petrol price it can cause you to cut back on using your car. You can still afford to fill the car but you may decide to use the bus pass. A lot of the typical MKS customers know how to tighten their belt even when they have no real need. All the talk of rising prices is the perfect scenario for a downturn in the economy. You have some who would spend if they had the money, and others who have the money and won't buy because they think they should behave cautiously. JJ

Good morning chilting and all. I believe our typical customer will still have enough spare income to weather the economic woes of the next 12/24 months. But these customers are likely to be cautious on the whole and will decide that they need to hang onto much of their spare income whereas the challenge is to get them to spend. The poorer section of society are inclined to spend what they don't have but that is not your typical MKS customer. Please don't be offended by what I have written as its not intended to be insensitive, you will get my meaning I hope. JJ
