It would have been kick off time if they had got FDA EUA, but those were unchartered waters back then and there was no reason to believe they wouldn't get the EUA. The FDA had been awarding lots of tests through 2020 but then as we all know things changed and it became apparent they were slowing right down with their approvals and we didn't get it.

The situation now with POC is entirely different.

I'm quite confident we will shift a lot of POC devices, the Point of Care market isn't saturated at all - It's a growing market and as we all know, the Genedrive test is better than the competition... and the competition have had success selling. Without the sales team I would have my doubts that a decent number would be sold, but I think with the dedicated sales team and big lessons learned from history I expect they will be successful with it.

Yes it was tongue in cheek guy lol, however it is possible! Certainly if a CEO is liking it I'm quite sure she will have considered whether it's viable for her company... so who knows, perhaps she is waiting for CTDA approval.

A growing full time dedicated sales team, and their POC test is better than the competition. I don't think they'll struggle to make sales. With such a huge market worth billions and little competition Genedrive will do very well imo, even a tiny percentage of that market will send the shareprice sky rocketing from where it is currently. Tiny mcap considering POC and AIHL... though this will change soon imo.

I disagree Roger, testing will continue as the virus will need to be monitored and testing is the only way of doing that. POC testing will become more and more useful and more feasible as the main method of testing. Current PCR tests are great for mass testing but as the virus becomes more endemic, a POC test will become more viable and will mean nobody needs to isolate whilst waiting for results.

Testing will of course always be needed to differentiate flu from covid too. A quick and accurate POC test is the answer there...

The virus will continue to mutate and there is a real possibility of more dangerous variants emerging too.

And it has been liked by the CEO of LIMA Networks and Datacentre UK, which suggests to me a reasonable chance that her company is planning an order. Adittionally the staff trainer at McDonald's Corporation has displayed her interest in the device.

The stealth variant has many mutations in common with standard Omicron, but it lacks a particular genetic change that allows lab-based PCR tests to be used as a rough and ready means of flagging up probable cases.

The variant is still detected as coronavirus by all the usual tests, and can be identified as the Omicron variant through genomic testing, but probable cases are not flagged up by routine PCR tests that give quicker results.

BA.2 (stealth) will be detectable as Covid with most covid tests, though it's 'stealth' aspect makes it dificult to identify... as it looks like Delta.

A study of 8,500 households and 18,000 individuals conducted by Denmark's SSI found that BA.2 was "substantially" more transmissible than BA.1.

The study also showed evidence to suggest that the BA.2 sub-variant is better able to evade vaccines.

Dr Chand said: "So far, there is insufficient evidence to determine whether BA.2 causes more severe illness than Omicron BA.1.

I'm a bit suspicious about how this conditional CE Mark has arrived just a few days after the placing scandal. I had been thinking they will release some good news to improve sentiment and increase the shareprice, and then this comes this morning. Wouldn't surprise me if they asked if they could have a conditional CE Mark in the meantime rather than having to wait another couple of months for the final approval after further data and reports have been provided.

Great news about Europe but still some uncertainty, as the CE Mark is conditional on them managing to provide extra data and reports by 31st March. I doubt any commercial deals will be done before then unless they are 100% sure they can meet the deadline.

The bad news in there is it sounds like the UK market has been lost as they won’t be able to meet the UK deadline.

There recent statement about "no short term need to raise additional capital" was extremely missleading. Shareholders don't expect a company to raise funds unless needed. Unless by "short term" they were taking the mickey and meant days/weeks.

It's a tricky one for these companies I think, as naturally they don't want private shareholders to know that they are planning a fundraise because it destroys the shareprice prematurely. However it's far better in the long term that a company is transparent and honest – if they have a decent business and proposition for investors they wouldn't need to go to the discount bucket shop flippers who couldn't care less about the company.

Without doubt, somebody who was approached with an offer to take part will have leaked it. Hence the share price crash, and which is why imo the company is now considering waiting for the market to recover.

So they’re basically saying they might not go ahead with the fundraising now because it’s been leaked and the share price has been obliterated before they could agree a price. They don’t need the cash at the moment, so they might wait until the share price is higher before doing a placing. Interesting situation!

I can't imagine the general public buying the POC device, to be honest, unless they're a hyperchondriac... most people just try to avoid getting it... and if they have to isolate for a couple of days it's not a big deal. I can however imagine a workplace employer buying one, that makes total sense... rather than having to send an employee home to isolate (costing the company a huge amount in loss of business) whilst PCR lab results are waited for they could test a suspected case there and then on the spot.

But they would need to sell the device to hundreds of employers to make it lucrative as it's not like multiple numbers of people are getting covid symptoms every day in a single workplace (unless it's a huge company with thousands of employees).

There have been POC tests available for years that test for multiple types of virus like…

“ Respiratory viral testing targets in POCT platforms can be single, dual or multiplex. The commonest are influenza A and B (and/or subtypes) alone, or with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) testing. Other platforms test ‘syndromically’ for a comprehensive range of viral targets including parainfluenza, human metapneumovirus, seasonal coronavirus, and rhinovirus.”

I would have thought that when covid mutates in to something a bit like flu, then a POC test that will test for all including covid would be far more beneficial than lots of individual tests. However it may be that those multi tests are less sensitive, I’m not sure.

They do about 77,000 flu tests in the USA annually which isn’t a lot considering the millions of cases. However I think they will test more going forward because covid could be mistaken as flu. Also there may be different treatment options depending on whether it’s covid or flu.

Has anybody actually read the article? I’m not a paid subscriber but it may just be a misleading headline.

Alternatively it wouldn’t surprise me if it was true, I’ve certainly seen many leaks like this turn out true and even after a company has recently said they are fully funded.

I’m currently thinking about scenarios where the POC would be used under the current guidelines. I can totally see the benefits of however, if somebody (a staff member in a care home for example) gets symptoms they will simply have to stay at home and get a PCR test, they won’t be able to go in to a carehome to be tested with a POC device. So I can’t see it being used for staff unless they developed symptoms during work.

For residents, if they developed symptoms then they will immediately be isolated and the POC test would be useful there to avoid having to isolate the person whilst waiting for PCR lab results. I doubt a carehome would use it for screening people without symptoms, I think LFTs would be cheaper and it follows guidelines.

I can imagine a similar use case in hospitals. I’m not sure a GP doctor would have one in their surgery, because nobody goes to the doctors with covid symptoms… at the moment anyway, maybe that will change in the future though when covid is less common, because rather than having somebody isolating and taking time off work they could pop into the doctors and get a POC test. It’s probably not economical to do that currently because it would cost the NHS a fortune with the amount of testing happening, but in the future perhaps more likely.

Most of Europe are seeing all time highs this week with new cases. A shocking 500,000 new cases in France a few days ago.
