nothing new maddog38,
https://www.dupont.com/news/dupont-and-vulcan-energy-collaborate-toward-zero-carbon-lithium-extraction.html
except Vulcan have signed offtakes, can produce with zero carbon and produce thermal energy in the Rhine Valley, could be why they have X15 in a year but more recently dropped back to X10,

Vulcan Energy Resources Limited's (Vulcan; ASX: VUL) chemical engineering team has successfully produced its first battery quality lithium hydroxide monohydrate (LHM) from piloting operations. • The LHM was produced from Vulcan’s sorption pilot plant, located at a geothermal renewable energy plant in the Upper Rhine Valley in Germany, with downstream electrolysis processing offsite, as per Vulcan’s planned commercial Zero Carbon Lithium™ Project. • The sample exceeds traditional battery grade LHM product including best on the market battery grade specifications required from offtake customers, at >56.5% LiOH.H2O and very low impurities.
Great news but hasn't stopped the SP to drop from $15.9 to $10.9 in five weeks
DLE - is being trialled globally including Argentinian brines.
Birmingham university are trialling not developed:
The company will be field-testing the system with eco-technology company Cornish Lithium, which has secured agreements with the owners of mineral rights over a large area of the county of Cornwall.
Salinity Solution’s patented desalination technology achieves the maximum yield of any known available system, but at up to half the energy consumption and with a much smaller footprint.
Even oil services GIANTS (big scary loads of money) are doing it:
HOUSTON, March 18, 2021—Schlumberger New Energy announced today the development of a lithium extraction pilot plant through its new venture, NeoLith Energy. The deployment of the pilot plant will be in Clayton Valley, Nevada, USA. The NeoLith Energy sustainable approach uses a differentiated direct lithium extraction (DLE) process to enable the production of high-purity, battery-grade lithium material while reducing the production time from over a year to weeks. This innovative process can create new market opportunities for lithium extraction and battery manufacturing economy, and maximize the value of the lithium-rich resource base in Nevada with cutting-edge extraction technology.
And lot's of investment in Nevada (MMS Railroad Valley) and many many more jumping on the bandwagon.
It's the lithium rush - we have interests in production ready assets with known costs EMH and Sonora under $4,000/mt
Lithium gold rush - we weren't talking Australian assets a few weeks back!!!!!
Surging and soaring - a frenzy!

Sodium might kill off lithium or the Nuclear Diamond battery, not forgetting Aluminium or Zinc, Thorium a no brainer for fiftty years.
