One thing for that article does stand out, however, you clearly don’t need to play by the Workd Bank / Western Rules anymore to get these things built, clearly you can fund these things wholesale out of the East. On the tarriff, it smacks of OBOR, in that the Chinese don’t want an immediate return of capital on investment, it’s all long game stuff with them for influence in the region. JD

If the Chinese Government (in whatever company guise) say put up the debt at just over LIBOR then who knows what you can get the tariff down to. One thing is for sure the Equity input will still want a health IRR. JD

As the article infers the World Bank won�t touch this and the WWF is obviously gearing up for a fight with UNESCO in tow. Pretty certain the African Development Bank will also run a thousand miles from this project and so will any Western funding whatsoever. Call me a cynical old dog, but it may well be a case that JPM knows no one will fund this and is using the logging tender as an excuse as necessary pre-works for the Dam works which will probably fall through, leaving the logging permits in place and continuing. You could well be right pa_richards, there will most definitely be pressure from the highest Escalon's of Government to keep a lid on the tariff to make it 'affordable' to the Tanzanian masses on a KWH basis. In order to do this of course they could add a sweetener on the tax situation, such as a tax holiday / exception of the MCPP SPV. More than one way to skin a cat and all that. JD

telegraphist50, Pertinent post, the LC I first met in 2013 did not expect to be here, I�ll tell you that for a fact, the plan was 100% to hive off most of this for a free ride in Plant (possibly even Mine as well), which was sensible as we didn�t have either the money / experience to develop such a beast. Even though I have a lot of money riding on it I have no issues in admitting that Kibo / LC / the BoD have somehow managed to get to this situation without diluting us to oblivion and any of them ever having experience in delivering a similar size / scope of project before and there has been more than a wee bit of feeling their way towards the MCPP Damascus! But there we are, we have a 97.5% carry interest (as we speak) and we will be the first (I hope) commercial enterprise to secure such a prize. Sometimes the tortoise does win the race. JD
