I will say I like hearing Trump attack the UKs ludicrous energy policy on the North Sea, it’s pretty much the only thing I agree with him on. It’s a shame we have to listen to the rest of the BS that comes with it

The reason Trump wants other countries to send ships is because once they do he can wash his hands of the whole situation. US won’t commit any ships in the Strait as they know they will be sitting ducks, if warships from other countries are attacked they can be dragged into the war allowing Trump an easier exit

The only way to make the Strait something towards 100% safe is to commit 1000s of ground troops along the entire length of the Iran/Strait shore line, they would then need to clear the whole stretch including inner land areas. If any parts are not manned and protected the Iranians can launch attacks, mines, or whatever else they have to hand. It can just be random or sporadic but if only one is successful that’s all they need to create the fear in shipping. If warships are deployed they are an even bigger target for Iranians to go after

If you look at a map, to secure the area frankly it looks impossible

Starts a war with Iran without any consultation with allies effected especially in the ME

Has no strategic plan whatsoever how the war can be concluded

If they blow up oil facilities on the island the US have no cards left to play, also Iran have a 600k(?) armed military that could just mix amongst the 90M population, a military the vast majority of which will despise and fight the West, and the US are going to entertain a small number of ground troops into that mix

Iran is a huge country which now has a splintered command but they are radicals all despise the US and Israel, and will continue to target the Strait knowing they can seriously hurt the West. Just the threat is going to destroy confidence

Basically the Strait of Hormuz is the equivalent to Trumps balls, Iran are going to continue to kick and squeeze as hard as they can. US administration have no idea how to solve this at the moment, strategically they seem quite dim

The Oil price will be up again soon as it becomes clear this US administration’s incompetence has no idea how to open the Strait of Hormuz safely, Iran still have a ton of ballistic missiles do they not and they won’t just back down why would they?
