I don't think Burford will receive anything from Argentina for another 3 years or so minimum, if it does at all - so the thought that any settlement could fund upcoming opportunities presenting themselves due to Covid19 are fantasy. As far as i'm aware the jurisdiction as to where the case should be heard has still to be decided - please correct me should you know different. As you correctly state Argentina has a poor/impossible defence in a US court, but they will continue to delay and should the case be eventually be heard in Argentina, a settlement in our favour will not be as certain as you make out.
It pains me to link an FT article, as I don't believe they have been fair to Burford, but in order to restore some kind of balance people may wish to read: www.ft.com/content/6debcc05-e368-44b2-bb99-618b7bc0a618 to understand that the YPF claims are not as straight forward as presented by our kid in a candy shop resident ramper.
