Ref timing of US listing. A good hint was included in the 2019 results RNS in the Corporate Calendar section:
"Given (i) the delay in the release of Burford's FY 2019 results due to COVID-19; (ii) the continuing backlog of audit work; and (iii) the process associated with Burford's US listing , Burford anticipates releasing its interim results for the period ended 30 June 2020 later than usual, and perhaps as late as the latter part of September 2020. If Burford releases its interim results prior to obtaining a US listing, that would cause further delay in the listing process as the interim results will need to be incorporated into a revised registration statement."

Maybe to buy and transfer for the US listing?

That was my understanding but note from the late RNS today:

So not sure what this change is about?!?

I agree Sudnal that is the upcoming performance that will be the main driver of any return to a fairer valuation. I know that many US companies do invest here, but Buffet for one, only invests in US listed stocks. Not sure that Burford would be to his taste, but there is likely to be to others with similar geographic screening criteria, not to mention the wealth of personal investors with an appetite for this new (to them) countercyclical asset class at a time when should be be most valuable.

Not sure what has happened today with the price as looked very bullish with the close yesterday. MW's second report had a limited impact on day of release with a more pronounced impact the day after. Whether yesterdays report has had an impact I really don't know. Hopefully tomorrow we will see a nice bounce although markets in general seem to be taking a turn for the worse.

Your thoughts wouldn't be coloured by your decision yesterday to sell in the 430's in the hope of getting a better price later on?

Potential progress was made yesterday in the German VW class action case's Burford is funding. The preliminary verdict is that VW should reimburse the full-cost of the purchase price minus a usage charge. Full judgement is due 25th May and hoping case will remain the same with only a fair usage charge deducted. Only with victory's like this do I think we will see meaningful movements in the SP.

BTW. Buffett actually said if you don't feel comfortable owning a stock for 10 years, you shouldn't own it for 10 minutes. He doesn't use stop losses either as only holds what he has thoroughly researched, can understand and believes in.

It will be interesting to see what next week brings. I was expecting a slight retrace as the results were really already known from recent RNSs, although I wasn't expecting today's fall, especially considering the rise yesterday against a large fall in the general markets.
Despite expectations having already been managed, I think that Yuri may be right in that the results for last year were below par but also the unveiling of the carrying value the unrealised gains of the YPF cases on the balance sheet is greater than most would have expected and hoped.
The positive, and not much has been said of this, is that they have had a strong year to date and that the marked increase in investments in new cases from 2017 onwards appear to have started bearing fruit. Cases on average take 3 years plus and the board have always been clear to communicate that they are unable to control the timings of cases, and also that agreements often provide Burford with greater returns when there is a delay. I think the SP will only show material gains with news of successful cases (and related cash received). I'm not sure of the short term but are confident that in the medium to long term those with patience and belief will see their investment prosper from today’s level.

I don't think Burford will receive anything from Argentina for another 3 years or so minimum, if it does at all - so the thought that any settlement could fund upcoming opportunities presenting themselves due to Covid19 are fantasy. As far as i'm aware the jurisdiction as to where the case should be heard has still to be decided - please correct me should you know different. As you correctly state Argentina has a poor/impossible defence in a US court, but they will continue to delay and should the case be eventually be heard in Argentina, a settlement in our favour will not be as certain as you make out.

If you read the RNSs you should have an idea of what to expect profit wise.

In addition, hopefully they will advise on recent progress since the reporting period and future strategy and ability to meet increased demand for litigation funding.

Hopefully once more is revealed with the final results we will see a more material improvement in the share price.

The PeoplePlus part of the business looks as if it could do very well once the Lockdown is over. I guess that maybe why HRnet paid £1.80 per share for their 29% less than a year ago. https://peopleplus.co.uk/

I've never said that, nor do I believe it. I would be lying however if I said that I thought they had the interests of the PI at heart and that weren't trying to hide their ineptitude/motivation to benefit from those they wish to exploit. Hopefully Bur will have the expertise to make the markets a better place. I believe this is massively undervalued and will recover and exceed pre-MW values in the fullness of time.

As someone said you would be better looking at ADVFN for BUR. Quality of the posts and knowledge is pretty poor here.

All of BUR hold so are aligned with our interests. Annual results are only around the corner and hopefully the trajectory and mood will then change. BUR have guided that income is going to be less than last year but commitments, thus future expected income, is the best it has ever been. I am hopeful of a strong recovery and will likely buy more this week, but will hold some funds back until after the results.
