Maybe it was looking for a final resting place or just picked the wrong place to hibernate! Hopefully he/she had a good innings thoug. I nearly strimmed a toad yesterday but clocked it just in time.
This time of year precarious for lots of things resting up in bonfires being built up got the fifth, always have a good rummage before I torch one.
We looked into getting a tank for a laugh once but very expensive and being a complete duffer with mechanicals etc figured if we had one and broke it(which I think is inevitable) imagine trying to get someone to come over and fix it!
hi troj, yes a lot of that too mate, global pandemic, putin ‘the wants to be great’ then the me gets going with a terrorist massacre, scary times.
my late grampa once said ww3 would start in the middle east, i hope he’s wrong.
being a bit careful where i drive in the field cos once you’re on wet mud only a big tractor or a tank will get you out!
you know me and trees bud, i must admit i do get a bit ****y when the green washers start on about not burning it in the fire though!
how’s the ponds?
Unfortunately not mate but appreciate the sentiment, when you hold something for ages and it stops paying a div and the price just drops and drops the goal shifts to trying to get your money back rather than the original reason for investing….well it does for me anyway!
Hope you managed to hack into those brambles by the way mate.
Hi GS, I concur mate, I think half the time people get worked up about stuff they can’t do anything about and just look to find someone, anyone to blame!
Sometimes I wonder if trust managers/brokers know anymore than anyone else, I sometimes look at the broker upgrades/downgrades and I think I might be right!
Hi Mick,
I think I got the timing wrong on that one mate, got a bit back but bailed on the first whiff of good news as I often do when I think I might actually get something back!
Holding a loss is easier when they pay divvies and on the rare occasions I see a profit I find it even harder to hold it!
There was a lot of money to be made on that one if you got the timing right though!
Hope you’re doing okay.
Hi nom, tried to eat a couple earlier and they were so bitter I spat them out!
Might read up and see what to do with them apart from growing them!
Evening all. Wars, massacres and falling share prices…not the best time it has to be said.
On a positive note I’ve started winter planting and put in a dozen or so sea berries today plus a few willows, a bit early maybe but at least there’s no drought currently, see what happens!
The sea berries are all offshoots from the existing ones and the berries are supposed to be excellent but I have to say I’ve tasted better sloes lol.
Hope you’re all doing okay and your ponds are as full as mine Troj.
I hate to have to admit but I’ve got worse paper losses on many individual holdings and trusts like EAT, JCGI to name but 2!
The only way forward I can see is wait for the constituent holdings to drag themselves back up in the cycle of shifting share prices and bank or reinvest the divs to average down, in other words wait.
I’m not prepared to crystallise a loss on a diversified fund just to buy other funds/investments and whoever said the letter from the chairman was well worded I concur.
Short fixes like director buys or even buybacks I doubt will get us back to a quid higher, only time.
I think the conspiracy theories on here about dividend washing etc are agenda driven, bitter nonsense(no offence) and most of my business friends as well as portfolio/shareholders are all saying this year has turned out to be a bad one and the ‘down a third’ fraction is pretty much across the board.

Value depends on the use and return I guess mate. Apart from fruits, nuts and berries and a load of logs as and when I need them it’s just general maintenance on costs but if persimmon want to build houses on it then I might think about selling up lol.
Yes I’ve noticed quite a few small toads hopping around in the verges and the squirrels are busy collecting nuts and badgers digging little holes everywhere too, bigger ones in the bunds where they live these days. Plenty of small birds around now the trees are growing up too.
Ade, just find it odd that you seem to devote a disproportionate amount of effort to a share you have pretty much exited from tbh. Good luck with your endeavours and investments all the same.
Damien, really?! Good luck with yours too.
Very painful at the time it has to be said, I’m all for risk/reward but that experience taught me a valuable lesson about n property speculation, shame it didn’t carry through to buying shares lol.
I’ve got some of those Alaskan ones tucked away, still think belvoir too high, have got winkworths and dabble with foxtons and lsl from time to time in the agents sector.
Hi AA, I’ve got quite a collection of them now but the only ones ‘in profit’ are land securities and a reit bucket called TRY. Thankfully most of them pay good divs and the healthcare ones like assura, target, impact and premier all sitting in chunky losses!!
I’ve certainly been busy cutting back the bad stuff to let the good stuff thrive! The p/f lower than during Truss but good to see some losses slightly reducing today mate!
I remember those days too, particularly when I got caught out with a second loan on a second property 4% above base….never tried that one again!
Morning all, nice to see some blue out there today. Lost interest in shares generally the last few months but there are moments when the optimism still rears its head, just can’t think of any at the moment lol.
Trees and wildlife going well. Hope you’re okay troj et al?
All this time you’ve been lamblasting the company you don’t and haven’t for a long time!
Bottom line is no one’s happy with the current SP but as pointed out the holdings fluctuate in value as does the SP and we’re being paid handsomely to ‘wait’ with the divvies.
Clearly there’s another agenda with you, suspected it for a long time and hope for your sake you get over it. GLA
Those cats are viscous when they go feral for sure mate!
Troj, the rabbits have got so many predators, foxes, stoats plus we’ve got red kites that keep having them, saw a feral cat dragging one the other day, no wonder they live in burrows! Luckily for them I won’t allow any shooting on my place so one less thing for them to worry about!
Makes you think twice about putting your hand into a dark corner with those teeth!!
I’ve got 190-odd holdings in all sorts of stuff, sectors, regions and if you include the investment trusts with all theirs I’d say I’m more diversified than I’ve ever been, good div flow but apart from the occasional takeover, hardly anything actually showing a profit! Putin and his imperialistic ambitions have a lot to answer for apart from the obvious they’ve knocked everything for six!
They’re not house builders, just real estate trusts, got loads of them in the big mix so decided to put another basket of basket cases in lol.
Must admit my pruning equipment has been busy lately keeping paths open!
Saw a stoat the other day, glad the dog didn’t clock it!
Hard to know what sector to buy these days mate, none of my specs ever do well so just stick mostly to the divvy stuff and only buy if it ‘looks cheap’….which means it gets cheaper after buying mostly!!
Morning all, glad to see some relief in the recent carnage yesterday! Also glad to see some rain to keep all our trees etc alive!
Bought some TRY yesterday which is like a basket of REITs and down there, looking to reinvest some funds that are liquidating shortly, plenty to choose from out there, might add to some of the infrastructure ones like BBGI.
House prices and BBC presenters doing a good job filling the papers!
How’s the ponds troj?
