Fids and project workflow31 Dec 2025 06:28
Here’s a list of ITM Power’s major hydrogen projects that already have FIDs & are under construction or progressing to execution (i.e., not just awaiting investment decisions), as well as some additional live projects showing real deployment activity and revenue potential:
✅ Projects with Final Investment Decisions (FIDs) & Under Execution
1. REFHYNE II – Shell Rheinland (Germany)
Capacity: 100 MW PEM electrolyser
Host: Shell’s Energy and Chemicals Park Rheinland in Wesseling, Germany.
Status: FID taken in July 2024 and ITM has signed the contract to supply 100 MW of TRIDENT stacks and skids.
Purpose: Produce up to ~44,000 kg/day of renewable hydrogen to decarbonise refinery operations.
Expected start of operations: ~2027.
Background:
REFHYNE II follows REFHYNE I, a 10 MW electrolyser that successfully completed operations and concluded mid-2024, validating ITM Power’s technology at industrial scale.
📌 Live / Installed Reference Projects
2. REFHYNE (REFHYNE I) – Shell Rheinland (Germany)
Capacity: 10 MW PEM electrolyser
Status: Completed & concluded — the project has finished and provided operational data demonstrating PEM performance at industrial scale with Shell.
Role: Served as a technology demonstration and reference for REFHYNE II.

🧪 Other Previously Announced or Installed Projects (commercial but smaller scale)
3. Tokyo Gas / Sumitomo Electrolyser, Japan
Capacity: ~2 MW PEM electrolyser
Status: Installed & operating, demonstration/reference project using ITM Power kit..
4. Yara Herøya Electrolysis Plant, Norway
Capacity: ~24 MW of TRIDENT stacks supplied to Linde for integration and installed for green ammonia production
Status: Operated and being used to produce green hydrogen to support ammonia production — a commercial deployment demonstrating scale of ITM stacks.
📊 Live Project Pipeline & FEED Contracts (Execution Phase but Still Awaiting FID)
These are projects actively progressing through engineering stages and partly contracted, but still require final investment decisions to move fully into construction:
5. UK Hydrogen Allocation Round 2 (HAR2) Projects
Scope: Multiple green hydrogen projects in the UK selected from HAR2
Status: FEED contracts signed for these projects (for NEPTUNE V or POSEIDON electrolysers), with target operational around 2028 — subject to FID.
Projects include:
One or more mid-scale NEPTUNE V deployments (multiple 5 MW units).
Two large UK HAR2 projects selected where ITM will supply electrolysers, but FID still pending.
6. Uniper Humber H2ub® (UK)
Capacity: ~120 MW electrolyser
Host: Uniper’s green hydrogen project in Humber
Status: ITM has a FEED contract; FID still expected around 2026 and project execution reliant on that decision.
7. Confidential 300 MW+ Asia-Pacific Green Hydrogen Project
Capacity: Over 300 MW (electrolysers)
Status: Selected suppli
