It would have been nice if DW had actually stated what the CWU were trying to avoid. And RM what they actually want.

The CWU have no influence over the USO.
If you mean something else, like work to rule, IA, etc, then say it. That will continue regardless of the USO.
RM have to abide by the USO.
I'm surprised as an ex-employee, that you cannot see this.

I would hope that they didn't. Paying out dividends and share buy backs would appear to be slightly foolish, if that was the case.
And on the subject of revisions. We lost 5 duties in our office. Our reasonable request is that if we cannot do the lapsing one day, it goes out first the next and we fail parts of our own duties. I'm not sure how that is USO compliant.
And the next round of revisions are meant to be starting next month, with implementation in October.

I think they'll be ecstatic!!!
Table top revisions with the CWU involved? Let's look at the outdoor actuals.
Indoor performance? Let's look at the traffic and measurement tools.
Pay rise? Possily gone for this current year as DW stated a long term agreement.
Conduct cases? I think that the majority, if not all, will be exonerated. In keeping with the spirit of "current things".
Start and finish times? Well, for now it seems that this has worked in the posties favour, in the majority of cases.
New employees? Nothing mentioned on this.
Owner/Drivers? Nothing mentioned on this.
Agency staff? Still in gainful employment under the RM umbrella. And still being paid 20 quid an hour for an 8 hour day (minimum), but some only working 4. And the agency getting paid too. These are the future employees of RM, IMO.

Did i say ecstatic? Deliriously overjoyed more like.

IA was not about a pay increase only.
For the majority it was the imposition of a not agreed pay rise (EA), as well the huge changes to our t's and c's.
I think there would have been IA even if RM had given us a 10% pay increase.
Money isn't everything.

I'm surprised with the voting figures turnout for the ballot. I thought it would have been much lower.

In further news:

Word reaches me that RM are bringing back managers who have recently been given redundancy.
40 grand for a 9 month contract.
I'm not sure how that fits in with redundancy rules, but that is what I've heard.
Probably ""working"" on the revisions.

"IN MY OFFICE" (i know how some people like me using this phrase) this week, we have been told early morning SA will be reduced (there goes my strike fund) as well as payments for deliveries. So they are obviously testing the waters.
Some staff will still come in early and do what is required within their hours. Contracted or overtime.
Exactly what RM want.
And then reduce some more, and more, and more, etc, etc, etc.

As for me? I'm loving it. I'm doing what Si wants me to. I am being monitored, indoors and out. If i can take any "absorption" i will.
Please Si, can i have some more?

I have no idea why staff do not adhere to the guidelines laid down. The majority don't, though.

If you dangle enough of a carrot to delivery staff, they will take it. The savings could be huge. That is something i can comment on, but you cannot.

Regarding the USO.
Does this become financially viable after duties are culled? Regardless of the outcome of these revisions. The USO will continue to be 6 days a week. So, in effect, parcels become the same.
For the record i was told by one of my white collar friends that 5 duties are being collapsed in my office. About 11% lost.
That means 5 walks not being covered on overtime.

Ensuring maximisation of duty spans?
If RM management want to ensure this, why don't they make sure that staff actually start when they are meant to, take meal breaks, do van checks, use the correct equipment, etc?
I'll tell you why.
Because instead of getting rid of 10,000 FTE's, they'd be recruiting.
And your investment would go down the pan.
Now, we can't have that, can we?
If management ensured that all posties adhered to the rules, you'd have failures right, left and centre.
I'm sure that you wouldn't want that, would you?

Rightsizing?
It would be easier if you said that someone who is quicker, younger, taller etc, WILL DO MORE WORK.
In which case, it's a management issue. Manage these people!
Sending staff back out on delivery?
That's all well and good, if the staff come back early enough.
But what about these multi occupied premises, where you have several delivery offices under one roof?
Some units may have a 30 minute drive to their first DP. And a 30 minute drive back. Obviously. Would you suggest that staff take out mail that they know they will fail? Only to prep it again (or bench merge) the following day.

And regarding letter decline.
I totally agree. It has dropped off, significantly. As it always does at this time of year.
But if you have 1,000 letters to deliver to 500 addresses, and the volume decreases by 50%. That doesn't necessarily mean that you are now going to 250 addresses. And while the machines read what you have, they don't read what you don't have. That is why there is manual sorting.
I'm sure you know that, though.
As does OFCOM.
Having said all this, i cannot wait for the planner/management led table top revisions.
I actually hope they work. In the management eyes at least.

I just thought i'd update you on the 6 day a week service.
The CWU (lazy militant posties) are not responsible for this. We just abide by the rules, just like RM "ARE MEANT TO DO".
