Level 5 restrictions to remain “for the forseeable future” well into the next few months leading up to summer. Beyond schools, don’t expect any moves to ease restrictions next week.

It’s possible that strict restrictions could remain in place until early May, that’s the message coming out of that Cabinet committee meeting this evening.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the restrictions levels, Level 5 is the highest level of restrictions in Ireland. Newspapers will have this story tomorrow and updates over the coming days. This will certainly do nothing for Aerlingus bookings.

Would anyone like to estimate the swing in the share price should foreign travel NOT be relaxed until the end of year and also an estimate should the PM do the opposite and relax restrictions from say the middle of July onwards (assuming the uk population is welcomed by tourist destinations around the world)?

Would a swing 50/60p in both directions be what people are thinking?

Say 1.00 - 1.10 if no travel and 2.10-2.20 if a green light is given to travel?

I would love to hear guesses for both scenarios from people.

Yes I agree, and the absence of any mention of foreign itself is significant. I am however ready to purchase significantly should good news break but I haven's seen anything yet... but we can wait and hope.

Has anyone found any reference to foreign travel in this leak??

The current price is too tempting for me... just sold my holding in a couple of trades now and I'm very happy with almost 9% in a only a few days from 147 to just under 1.60.

I'm not encouraging you to trade, please hold until you are happy and DYOR. This might break the 1.60 and keep going for all I know but this price for me made sense. Profit like that in such a short space is always nice. I wont suffer fomo if it takes off as I have done well already and I wish everyone here every success with this one. I will be watching carefully and most likely be back in at some stage....

@sunsurfer - if you get 1.65 then that will be very nice profit from an average of 1.47 and more importantly it will be real profit and cash in your bank if you choose to sell.

1.68 will always be a test on this one and IMO we will need actual good news to convince the market that the price should rise above this point as there will most likely be strong resistance. Pending results will likely cause a few jitters too... if that kind of pricing (1.65) happens this week with out good news then I will also be selling my holding and very happy with the profit and sit back and see if another entry point presents itself.

To be honest I haven't fully decided just yet. As you know it's a very volatile at the moment and we are seeing big swings in the sp. As I type it is 6% up currently from my buy in at 1.47 in only a couple of days with no major news. Seems like people are just trying to find a good entry point and trade between the high and low range. If good news breaks on this one it will go 2.00+ but if bad news breaks it will be a big drop down. We are all watching the price like an eagle, but in answer to your question I do not have an exit point set in stone just yet for this batch. It would be nice to be on board if the travel gets a green light but equally if this rises much more and there is no news to justify it then my head says to bank the profit and don't be greedy. It's very much a case of wait and see how the price is doing while reading all the relevant news updates on covid and travel.

Good morning. Of course I have lost money in the past... I still hold one bad bank share which is slowly coming back. I should have sold it on numerous of occasions when I look back now. I was too concerned with converting the paper loss into an actual loss and my judgement was clouded foolishly when the correct decision should have been to sell. I purchased another bank share last summer which thankfully has performed very well and if I use one to average down the other then I am doing ok but I think there is more gains to be had on those two before selling just yet. They have been one hell of a rollercoaster ride though, and not in anyway enjoyable. Thankfully they are looking a little better these days now that brexit has passed. Hopefully Covid gets under control soon too as the lockdowns are holding them back.

Be under no illusion - everyone has a bad investment somewhere in the closet at some stage in their investment days.

Good morning. Missed the boat?? Not me.... bought a significant holding at 1.34 and sold at 1.58. bought a small holding for an interest @ 1.47 last week. I post my opinions, nothing else. I have never de-ramped. Check back and read all my posts, I have never given a prediction on this other than last week when I said I sold at 1.58 and expected it to drop to mid 140's which is exactly what it did. I have never mentioned a second rights issue either.

If you only want to listen to good news stories then that is your prerogative but you might be better listening to all sides of a debate to get a balanced opinion. Not all bad news or opinion is just noise, you might do well to listen to relevant information even if you don't particularly like it. For the 10th time, I believe in this share and when we get actual good news this share will fly to 2.00+ and i will significantly increase my holding. The only issue here is timing and good news needs to come fast...

This is more than slightly worrying that the head of BA has no idea or any insight into possible restart dates for aviation and has to publicly write to the PM to request information and beg for a restart plan. I would have hoped that behind the scenes there might already be at least a basis for a road map being discussed with the industry leaders so they could start making preparations and plan for the season ahead. Sean Doyle is obviously very worried if he has to call out Boris so publicly in order to put pressure on the PM. The inner circle are no clearer about the season ahead than the rest of us. Any decision we make about this share is purely speculative and without any basis or fact as there are absolutely no positive discussions with the industry leaders behind closed doors based on the open letter to the PM from Sean Doyle. This does not bode well in my opinion.

I was in this share since 1.34 and had hoped 2.00+ as the months progressed. I still believe in the share long term and that a recovery will come but I sold due to nerves caused by recent change in my own sentiment. Reasons for this change was negative government talk regarding covid vaccination passports. The new recent more contagious strains and the news from S.A regarding the ineffectiveness of the vaccine there.... The tightening of travel restrictions... and importantly the expense around forced quarantines. When I added these all up and looked at the timeframe for travel I was afraid that it might delay the travel season significantly and the IAG group would suffer badly as they need bums on seats asap to get revenue back into the company. When I purchased originally I had hoped passenger numbers would start to increase from March/April onwards and by June to see full planes in the sky. The pent up demand only gets greater by the day but the longer this drags on the worse it is for the airline. When the kids summer holidays start we need people travelling to all the usual sun destinations. If we have a slow start to the peak season, that is not something that can be made up in Sept/Oct as most families will not be able to travel then. Then after I sold I was educated on the fact that vaccination does not exempt anyone from quarantine so if you travel on a holiday this could well be a factor and make families decide to holiday in their domestic country for a number of reasons.

Look, all this share needs is a little bit of good news and it will take off.... but for the moment I was sure the range would drop and that is why I sold at 1.58 and sure enough the price has fallen. I had a significant investment and I was in profit so I felt for me the time was right to sell. I have been slow in the past to change my mind when events evolved and I delayed in selling shares so I was trying to learn from my mistakes of the past and go with my gut. All this negative news in the media and delays around travel were always going to effect the travel sector... and this share is not for the faint hearted.

I hope for all concerned that good news comes soon and I will jump in straight away if that news comes soon but things have definitely changed recently and the weeks are rolling by and that is negatively effecting the share price.

Good luck to everyone invested here, I genuinely wish you all well and I will not begrudge success to all when the price takes off, you all deserve it as this one has aged us all so much over the last while.

Also the Irish government issued a statement "Irish people will be holidaying domestically again this summer". Not good news for the Aer-lingus side of the IAG group.

... the same as someone who has not been vaccinated. This makes it more difficult again with regards to booking a holiday. The reason being that vaccines are not 100% so they can still contract and spread the virus on return. Very difficult to book 2 weeks in the sun if you don't have the leave required to quarantine on return.

Seems like every way we turn there is a sting in the tail for all scenarios....

Something I hadn't considered and I just found out this afternoon from a friend who is working in the health care sector is that even though they have been vaccinated already they need to remember that if they choose to book a holiday they need to consider possibly quarantine on return as they will still have to fully comply with all rules at the date of travel the same as an unvaccinat
