RE: False sell29 Oct 2025 12:50
Though the market makers sometimes absorb some supply or demand from their own inventories if they can't match buyers and sellers due to an imbalance. That's why they legally have to own some shares in order to guarantee at least some degree of market liquidity. If they run into trouble, then they have to sharply mark up or down the price. Generally MMs don't like to hold very many shares with volatile microcaps, so imbalances can happen very quickly.
This is why in the past we have sometimes seen some sharp down spikes on the open when an RNS has been released and the MMs needed more shares in their inventories, so they hit some stops and shook some holders out. The ones they hit were bought very cheaply which reduced their risk.
Like that time in 2023 when it finished at about 3p the previous day, then an RNS was released at 7am the next day and it spiked down to 1.8p on the open, and then spiked up to 6.5p on the same day.
