Ah, the grand SMR sweepstakes! The UK government is set to select two of the four contenders for its SMR rollout, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. Let’s break it down:

🔥 The Contenders:

1️⃣ GE-Hitachi Nuclear Energy International LLC

Backed by two nuclear heavyweights, General Electric and Hitachi.

Their BWRX-300 design is already in development in Canada and the U.S., which means they have a global rollout strategy.

However, they don’t have as deep UK roots as some of the others.

2️⃣ Holtec Britain Ltd

Specializes in small modular reactors and spent fuel management.

Their SMR-160 is a pressurized water reactor with a focus on safety and passive cooling.

Holtec has been pushing hard, but they’re not as well established in the UK nuclear space as others.

3️⃣ Rolls-Royce SMR Limited 🔥 (The hometown favorite)

Strong UK government backing and deep local supply chains.

Compact and scalable 470 MW design, ideal for grid integration and replacing retiring gas plants.

Politically, RR is the front-runner given the UK’s push for domestic energy independence and British jobs.

4️⃣ Westinghouse Electric Company UK Ltd

Their AP300 SMR is a scaled-down version of their proven AP1000 reactor.

Westinghouse has experience building reactors worldwide but has faced some project delays in the past.

They have a UK footprint (Springfields nuclear fuel plant), which is a plus.

The Smart Money's on…

🇬🇧 Rolls-Royce SMR ✅ – Almost certain to be picked.

Deep UK political support.

Substantial industrial base in the UK.

Their design aligns with the UK’s energy security goals.

🇺🇸 Westinghouse OR GE-Hitachi ✅ – The likely second pick.

Westinghouse has UK assets, which might tip the scales in their favor.

GE-Hitachi’s BWRX-300 is already getting global traction, which makes it a formidable choice.

Wildcard? 🎭 Holtec – Would be a surprise selection, but never say never.

Final Prediction:

Rolls-Royce SMR + Westinghouse or GE-Hitachi

Holtec unlikely to cut.

I've never been so emotional, It's gone from a near carp of a week to celebrations within 5 days (again). RR is on the up, gold is just shy of $3000 / oz. I can barely contain myself -- I'm actually craving a week of tranquillity. (I feel like tweak from southpark)
