PolyM, could be a large investor quitting on a fine margin, but as the price agreed was well below the ask price at the time, it could have been a deal struck whereby the maker 'gambled' on being able to sell these at a profit at a later stage. They have to maintain a certain liquidity to fulfil their orders. The deal was done maybe with a brokerage who was prepared to sell at this price maybe because he thought he was on the wrong side of the market. The spread is usually very large with this, mainly to cover the MM's risk. You would feel reasonably comfortable in being able to sell those particular shares at a profit at some stage I guess. There was a surge just after they were sold maybe because there were buy limits mounting up which needed to be dealt with.

In this case, they sold how many million it was because they knew they could sell them, thus the rapid rise in price.

Dave, I suspect the big sell you referred to was something to do with the way market makers work, especially with a volatile stock such as this:

"Market makers display buy and sell quotes for a guaranteed number of shares, take orders from buyers, and then sell shares from their inventory to complete the order."

Nice intro from our Chairman, it should convince most people and I understand the rationale (be it shortsighted). Mitch will have to dig deep now and provide the shareholder return with presumably a buy back and dividend. If it is say a 8% buyback, then this makes Mercuria's stake rise from 28.9% to 31.4%. Is this 30% threshold significant? He will also have to come up with a nice dividend before the deal is finalised. Lets hope it comes off.

The only way this SP is going to rise is with a NO vote and the Board resigning (hope I am wrong).
