I find this rise in the share price deeply distressing. If it continues, I shall have to change my username from "Impecunious2" to "Pecunious1." Imagine the inconvenience of that. I blame Gervaise Heddle and Callum Baxter myself. This habit of finding gold is truly deplorable.

Nice one, Enrico (16.22). You're right. The risks of investing in this company are immense. As I suggested yesterday, the CEO may elope with his girlfriend to Ecuador at any time (though I must confess I have no idea (a) if he has a girlfriend, (b) if she likes Ecuador, nor (c) why he would wish to do this, if he has £20 million invested in GGP).

I have not changed my recommendation, because not everyone can take a joke.

All AIM investments are risky. Most of us (particularly myself) don't understand the technical details; so we are reduced to making an estimate of the CEO's character. Can we trust him? This divides into two further questions. (i) Is he honest, or sufficiently honest for our purposes? (ii) Does he have good judgement?

For all I know, Gervaise H may deceive us all, and migrate to Quito tomorrow morning with the entire cash balance of GGP, plus his delectable girlfriend; or he may make some horrid blunder (I've made plenty myself, so I know what it's like). But I think not.

Actually, I don't believe that money by itself does bring happiness (we can all think of rich people who are miserable). Lots of other things are necessary too; for example, good health, a good character, and the benefit of living in a civilised society, which is not in a state of war or civil war.

Of course, the sad fact is that all happiness is temporary; for eventually everyone gets clobbered by age, sickness and death. But it's still nice to be happy while one can.

There's a serious question, which we must all ask ourselves. Does money bring happiness? The short answer is yes. I know, because I've tried the alternative, which is poverty.
