Stop losses are useful, if one's holding shares in a FTSE100 or FTSE250 company; but on AIM, they're a mistake, because the volatility and the spread are much greater.

Hi, Hydrogen. Not all the small cap miners are down. Trans-Siberian Gold (a company I rather like, though I don't hold any shares in it) is up 4.5%.

Hi, Mercedes, 1730, I agree with you on this, particularly paras 1 & 2. One factor which I think is holding back the share price is the falling price of gold (in my view temporary, caused by a rise in the dollar).

BTB, "the early days were far from being great." How right you are. I put all my capital, £30k, into Greatland at 3p in Jan 2011, and then saw the price fall to below 0.1p in 2015. After which, I feel whatever profits I may now have are well-deserved.

Hi, Dr. I'm in GGP (about £600k) and intend to switch part of my capital into OMI; but you are right, I have delayed, because I think there's likely to be more news coming from GGP than from OMI between now and January. But I may be wrong; I often am.

Hi, Chippy. I agree with you on the importance of the CEO. As mentioned before, I was in Man Group when Stanley Fink left in 2007; the share price fell, and carried on falling. Man Group is no longer in the FTSE100.

I like the contrast between my amateur approach of saying to VitaminC, "you should be OK here," and your thoroughly professional approach of listing all the relevant factors, and sources of information. You are right, of course. But I remember a girl at Pembroke, who used to say "I like being stupid, it's so endearing" (she wasn't that stupid, for she'd made it into the university); and I've always rather agreed with her.

You should be OK here, VitaminC; but don't expect the same percentage gains we have already had.
