Gold has had a good afternoon, and is presently at $1743. Essentially, the more inflation in the US, the better; provided the yield on 10 year Treasuries lags the inflation rate.

Yes, it's good news. At last.

From our point of view, the higher the better. Gold likes negative real interest rates. So we need to have US inflation outpacing any rise in the yield on 10 year Treasuries. That's my understanding from all these Kitco videos I've been watching.

One of the reasons I bought into OMI was Brad George. Although his lack of PR skills has been criticised (by myself and others) in the past, there's something very reassuring about his honesty; when there are delays or difficulties, he tells us. This is much better than pretending all is well, when it isn't. Also one gets the impression that he's an excellent geologist.

I thought that most recent Q and A session worked well, because one had the optimism of Louis Castro set against the realism or pessimism of Brad. It's good to have two people at the top with different skills and dispositions, provided that the personal relationship between them is good (which so far as I can tell, it is).

I agree with your second sentence (though the matter's slightly complicated because the jobbers will be trading on their own account); and think it's a problem of undervaluation, rather than manipulation. But it is difficult to decide fair value for any of these companies, which have no income; for there is no PE ratio to be calculated. Of course, GGP is in a different category from almost all the others, because we have a clear and definite path to a very large income in two or three years' time. But how far ahead does the market look? Six months, is the standard answer to that question. Which may explain why the present share price is rather depressed.

I've not tried to sell OMI, and won't be doing so for some time. But you're right to say there is a problem with online market size (Brad G. mentioned it in an interview last autumn). What I've done when buying is simply to divide an order of £30k into two parts; this afternoon, one could invest £20k in one go, but not £30k. Of course, it's possible to start getting into phone calls, and sending orders with a maximum price to the broker or the jobber, but is it really worth it? It's stressful, and time-consuming, and best avoided.

I suppose if one wished to put in a substantial sum, say £500k, one could try negotiating the price downwards by phone; and one day, when I'm richer, I may try it. But not now.

My experience of GGP is that there's a rise before the results, followed by either a slight drop on the day (if the results are good) or a severe one (if they are bad). The same will probably happen here.
