the deal with sunrise is its all part of the 2018 ratified 2019 maritime boundary agreement, part of which is australia agreed not to issue a license on the oz waters side of the timor sea boundary at sunrise and drain it from their side.
original agreement 50/50 , australia offered 70/30 and 80/20 both in favour of tl, to try to get things moving.
no agreement as to location at that meeting but the tl reps proudly stood on the steps afterwards and stated , we now have 80% and it comes to the island very soon. while the aussie entourage , stood shaking their heads......... 🤦♂️😅
can not just push oz/woodside out, without compensation or risk of defaulting on rules put in place during the international maritime boundaries dividing the timor sea between , oz , tl and indonesia...........
chuditch has no such problem , being 100% (currently) inside tl waters, prior to agreement, it was held under an australian psc license, we do not want that can of worms, to re open, many majors and tier 1's departed after years of force majure etc in the as was jpda region. chuditch runs all along the new southern division border, likewise the area underneath it, is currently unoccupied, like sunrise , it could be drained from the oz waters, if they ****ed them off...
why its been all down to politics since gusmao put the big fat no to all options other than it comes to the island in 2002.
never what shell , conoco , woodside , nexen , bhp, inpex and others that operated in the area and departed said, likewise boil/sunda energy..........
its always been a very complicated deal and long term project............glalth
