"One investment banker warned delegates that mining companies may become "uninvestable". "
If you have a tailings problem, who're you gonna call?
MetaLeach!
I said when I started with AXM that I was in this as an environmental play.
All we need is one project that establishes us as the "Organic" option: no pesticides, no chemical fertilisers, no genetically modified soya beans.
For PR purposes, the miners can say they are investigating MetaLeach technology.
They will still carry on as before, but make noises and carry out AMMLeach feasibility studies.
They still have to keep bribing environmental ministers, and placating environmental protestors,
because their mines keep polluting like before.
Obviously, they eventually come up with show plants to appease the green lobby.
Even if they don't leach one ounce of copper, AXM share price will be through the roof from all this activity.
If you go for .com bubble style evaluation, and say ALL the mines belonging to major mine comanies will be paying 3% royalty to MetaLeach, what should the share price be?
Let us say £10billion worth of metal is produced using MetaLeach technology, so £300million in royalties.
Let us say the overheads are £10m for patent lawyers, £10m for wages and rent, and £80million for escorts and private jets for the BOD. That leaves £200m for dividend for ~2billion shares: which is 10p dividend per share. Assuming a 5% dividend rate, that implies a share price of £2.
So, £100billion of metal could see ~£20 share price.
The plan is to start a global panic about miner practices,
which results in immediately withdrawal of permits and licenses.
The mining executives have to snap into action, but all they know is mercury, acid and smelting.
Now, some junior executive raises his hand, and says AMMLeach is the Fairy liquid of Mining, tough on tailings, but gentle on your land.
The PR department says, we have a £100m budget for damage control, how much of AXM can we buy?
If Glencore (or BHB, or XXX, ...) plays it right, they can grab 51% before anyone realises, and save themsleves £billions.
They can then go back to escorts and cocaine, knowing it's a job well done.
