Production method
Grey hydrogen
Produced from fossil fuels like coal or natural gas, this is the most common and cheapest type of hydrogen.
Blue hydrogen
Produced from natural gas using steam reforming, this type can be "carbon neutral" if the carbon emissions are captured and stored.
Green hydrogen
Produced by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using renewable energy sources like wind or solar.
Brown hydrogen
Produced by gasification of brown coal, which releases carbon emissions into the atmosphere.
Pink hydrogen
Produced by electrolysis of water using electricity from a nuclear power plant.
Turquoise hydrogen
Produced by methane pyrolysis, which splits methane into hydrogen and solid carbon.
