The Company conducted a rigorous and wide-ranging selection process to ensure that it appoints the strongest possible candidate to lead the business through its next stage of growth. Mr Coyle succeeds Dominic White, who stepped down from the role in July of this year.

Mr Coyle is a highly respected, strategic leader who brings over four decades of both executive and non-executive financial services experience to the role. After a thirty-year career at some of the UK’s largest institutions, including BP, Bank of Scotland and Lloyd’s Banking Group Plc, where he served most recently as Group Financial Controller and Deputy Group Finance Director, Mr Coyle has been appointed to a number of Board roles mainly across the financial services industry.

He currently serves as a Non-Executive Director and Audit Chair of HSBC UK Bank Plc and M&S Bank Plc and chairs other M&S group subsidiaries, as well as serving as Senior Independent Director on the board of Honeycomb Investment Trust Plc and Audit and Risk Chair at Scottish Water. He has previously held the role of Chair at international payments business World First.

Mr Coyle qualified as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG.

Hi ****, not a good day for Syme's share price today isn't it? Sure not one of the best days. However this is a sign that the company is heading towards a good governance that consist also of a conservative approach to the business that in my opinion is fare to the long term shareholders, despite the bumper encountered today. But as I said, big part of the road has been paved, still bumpers will be there, and today was an example, but is not a bumper that makes the road. In my personal opinion, Syme has now a new Chairman, a CFO and both have a responsibility towards the information communicated to the market. If they see any risk of delay of revenues recognition, they will better opt for the conservative side: better for them the risk to over perform and surprise the market, rather than overpromise and misguide the investord. Therefore, despite the bad performance of the share price today, I would see the RNS of today as another piece of the puzzle that went in the right place.
Syme has to deliver a first IM, that is sure and no argue, but reading the RNS, I see that Sace (Italian agency for export credit) is engaged and this gives me a great confidence because the business model, having Sace engaged, becomes much simpler and much easier to execute for banks and funders; I can see the logic and banks love to enter in these type of deals where they have the back up of the national credit insurance company. As the RNS is explicit about Sace, there I get the confidence that the IM will come. And here comes the point of what you are in Syme, a share holder or a trader. If you are the shareholders, it is less important if it happens tomorrow or in one month (the earliest the better of course) as you see that the fundamentals for the first IM have been laid. Therefore, in my opinion, it is important not to get stuck in a bumper, to focus on the he road and look straight.
