We can presumably all agree that European governments are stating that the 2nd wave is coming quicker and harder than they expected. We can also presumably agree that IAG has a daily cash burn rate (the level of which is a pointless debate). I would therefore argue that it's actually positive news for IAG (not from a humanitarian perspective of course) that the wave is coming faster and therefore will pass faster than expected. The quicker the hit, the less cash burn. The last thing cold hearted shareholders would want is the 2nd wave to hit in the New Year......the earlier the better, and better during a time of year when travel is typically depressed.

The most ironic thing on this board, is that you post repeatedly with the setting 'No Opinion'. Maybe you should change that setting to 'Strong Sell' for your future posts? Let out your inner feelings.

Whether you believe IAG can see this out is the wrong question; The question is whether they can outlast some of the competition. No one can rationally argue that the airline industry is doomed as a whole.

Doesn't sound to me like you took up your rights. If you had of done, the money would have been taken days ago.

A small point, but I've seen a lot of questions on here which suggest people aren't familiar with Rights Issues. Some brokers, like mine, will not execute the IAG rights if my balance is in £......….I have to have the balance in cleared Euros. If you don't have an FX account already, and are relying on your broker to do the Euro conversion...…….then you may well face a T +2 settlement time on that conversion. My broker has a deadline of the Euros being in the account on the morning of the 23rd, which meant today is the last day to execute a £ to Euro order.

A comparison to AML, a niche car company which has been barely profitable throughout history, is possibly a stretch.

I agree investors have factored in the risk, but would have assumed they did that before today...….If Goldman have genuinely been working on this for several months, they couldn't have released a £2.50 target price without intention......Does anyone seriously believe they could have been working on a deal, knowing the company was worth (for example) £1 and put out that target......they just couldn't. The Qatari government will, I'm sure, take up their allocation.

Tanking is a rather dramatic perspective; There's news without an associated RNS hence uncertainty. I'm saying that when that RNS comes, if it matches the news flow, I consider it positive. Indeed the same news was released over a month ago, except the £ is higher in today's article. So it's hard to imagine anyone holding already who wouldn't have expected this?

The rights issue is positive news, as it will remove short term uncertainty.

I got stung with Carillion in terms of shorting activity, but ultimately I knew the risks and was purely gambling. I'm in two minds...….yes, they put enormous downward pressure on companies, but they are ultimately just highlighting problems in their business model which might otherwise go unnoticed. Ted Baker's founder was a creep and no surprise his brand suffered as a result; Metro had massive accounting issues etc. So really shorters are just releasing steam from a kettle left on the hob, IMO.

How can it be cheaper to employ a person to do this than use a dummy? (Oh...…..wait :-))

I thought it odd that Goldman had set a price target of £2.50 when others were so much higher; Suspect they have been trying to lower market expectation, to facilitate their deal. Uncertainty is the enemy to all companies, but if Goldman secure funding that's yet more positive news.
