On the subject of copper, there was talk a couple of years back of hare brained scheme to introduce tiered copper price structuring. Whereby the sale price is set on the mine and its operator’s carbon footprint. Lower the footprint, higher the rate received. . Sounds daft but if it will tip the economic viability of a mining operation toward using renewables, where fossil fuelled plant and power sources would be likely preferred due to cost, then it is maybe not as daft as it sounds.
In jurisdictions such as the Australias where governments are setting increasingly higher targets to actively increase renewable energy to balance grids across power networks, projects like Hav could benefit and I’m sure you will see obligations to employ renewables with ever increasing ESG compliances that count massively in obtaining mining permits.
Will see what hoops GGP will have to jump through to get Havieron permissions. But, it will though, be a modernised, efficient, next generation mine with electric drills, shovels and loaders that will be more befitting of its ‘beautiful’ ore body. Won’t be a dirty mine!
