Not sure if this has been reported previously (C79??) but it'll fill a gap until we get some news.

Someone from University of London in collaboration with The Institute of Cancer Research focused on 737 for their PhD thesis "Identification and characterisation of drug-tolerant persister cells arising in response to targeted CHK1 inhibition".

In the acknowledgements section the author notes Giant Really Cheesy Wotsits helped get her through the writing process. I'm sure I've seen a link between 737 & Wotsits somewhere before...

The final results for the year end 30/6/24 should be out next month. Surely an ideal time to tell us if there's been any progress with 737 and if 1802 translational studies have come to an end.

I'm already compiling a list of questions for the annual Investor Meets event.

Add the fact that they don't appear to be actively searching for a new CEO and it points to T&J perhaps deciding enough's enough and it's time to sell up and enjoy the spoils.

Just echoing SOG & Rebster a bit here - Would the similarities between 1801 & 1802 make things tricky for a company only interested in 1801? Where a patent covers their manufacture and/or therapeutic uses, could this feasibly lead to conflict somewhere down the line?

Any umbrella patent applicable to both compounds could be too much of a grey area for those interested purely in 1801 which may force them to consider a T/O instead. Why leave a similar compound on the table if you're confident enough to invest in its stablemate?

It makes you wonder if any of our HNW chums have whispered in the BoD's collective ear to head down a specific road, either seeking a T/O or license deal, based on their own desires. I presume these people didn't get rich without having some degree of business savvy.

Hi C79 - just to point out to others, those sources for 737 do state they supply the drug for 'not for in-human' trials only so any work done by a pharma would be preclinical.

BenH - I agree that we should be informed if milestone events have been triggered but the stumbling block is the wording of the Jan 2024 RNS. Who decides what that approriate time is? As I speculated yasterday, maybe we've recived payment/shares but the BoD don't yet deem it the appropriate time perhaps due to on-going negotiations. I'm as much in the dark as everyone else.

With all my 737 digging I missed the most fundamental question - do all clinical trials in the US have to be registered on the ClinicalTrials.gov site? It appears not.

If a trial is funded in any way by the US National Institutes of Health it has to be registered on the national database. If you're funding the trial yourself then it doesn't need registration. So 737 could be zipping along in a P3 trial and we wouldn't hear about it. As I mentioned the other day, our BoD will notify us of progress 'at the appropriate time'.

Taking your GSK/AZ example, if GSK owned the license and AZ offered to buy SAR, the BoD would have to inform GSK (and shareholders) meaning GSK would then have to make a decision - do they match the GSK offer, increase it or accept it as part of business?

They may be business rivals but that doesn't mean they can't cooperate when it suits them.

Hi Potnak - if we license 1801 we are still the owner. We can sell our rights to future milestones or royalties to anyone who's interested. If a license deal is £50m upfront and £2bn on the drug getting to market plus royalties thereafter, another company might offer us £1bn in the here and now for those future rights.

If you lease a car you may act as if you own it but it remains the property of the leasing company at all times unless you buy it outright at some future point.

Hi Luton - yes, there's definitely something fishy about 737's current whereabouts but I think I'm right in saying if we don't get any news soon, we should at least get something at the end of Dec/start of Jan. If we then get circa 137,000 shares in the mystery company I'm not sure the BoD would get away with not telling us who that company is.

However! Going back to the Jan 2024 RNS re 737, it notes 'A further announcement regarding any future income, including any Consideration Shares which may be issued, will be made at the appropriate time.' Hmmmm, at the appropriate time. Not 'will be announced immediately upon receipt.' For all we know we've already had that implied income but the BoD don't consider it appropriate to announce just yet. But wtfdik?

The thing to remember about the 737 deal is that it was negotiated by CPF who act on behalf of CRUK. They are more interested in treatments and cures than profit. They possibly just went with the first company to say they'd accelerate development, maybe that's all CPF needed to hear.

Since 1801 is all ours and IF it's as good as we think, then perhaps we do have the luxury of being more selective with potential partners. Sure, we shouldn't write-off lowball offers (never look a gift horse etc.) but at least we're in control this time around.

With 1801 near enough patented globally it's another derisk for all concerned. I can't ever recall seeing one of SAR's patents failing to be granted. Yes, they've sometimes bounced back pending clarification but that's to be expected. I'd be surprised if one or two companies haven't even tried to entice Reader from us over the years.

There have been many challenges to overcome (and even a couple that weren't self-inflicted!), but clearly T&J remain committed to the business. I feel a large payday for all of us is beginning to come within our reach. IF that payday turns out to be a takeover bid rather than a license deal, remember the IP is worth far more than our current sp would have you believe.

And I presume those sub-£10 purchases are our usual suspects closing their shorts, ho ho.

And yet Celtic, the mystery of 737 continues. It hasn't had a change of name as far as I can see and it isn't showing up on any national register of current clinical trials in the US, Australia, Brazil, Europe or China. Having completed PI/II trials you'd think it would be starting a Phase 3 trial in combo by now which would surely trigger some sort of milestone but we've got nothing on the newsfront.

So it's either sitting in the licensee's back pocket waiting for the right moment, it's undergoing new groundbreaking preclinical trials, it's been deliberately stuffed in the bottom of a drawer by big pharma to be forgotten about or it's happily being used in trials on some off-shore hospital ship in international waters.

In a word, I'm baffled.

Blink and you'll miss it but at least it shows researchers the world over have awareness of 737. This time it's an Italian paper published yesterday giving 737 a mention in the snappily titled, 'Stimulation of cGAS-STING pathway as a challenge in the treatment of small cell lung cancer: a feasible strategy?'

Hi Citizen - I should've known you'd have beaten me to the punch! Still, better to have positive and worthwhile research than bickering.

Anyway, on the subject of 737, my sources don't indicate any change of its name so would that strongly suggest it's back with Sierra? I'm under the impression that most companies elect to change the name of an acquired drug to align with any others that they own e.g. AZ-xxxxxx for AstraZeneca or MK-xxxxx for Merck etc. The apparent lack of progress is beginning to get tiresome. Perhaps I need another coffee.

Hi SOG - the website below led me to the discovery. The site seems to use AI to collate info so it should be taken with a grain of salt but that aside, if you look at the R&D details for CCT-245737 there's an entry suggesting SAR are carrying out preclinical work on prostate cancer dated 1st March 2024. It's either an error or maybe it points to work being carried out by our mystery US biotech and it's linked SAR to the work in lieu of the correct company name.
