Virgin Trains has reported a rise in the number of passengers using its cross-border rail services over the last six months.
The company said more than 5,000 extra passengers were travelling on its trains each week between Edinburgh and Newcastle.
It said the 7% growth came after it added 42 new services a week on the East Coast Main Line.
The rail firm has promised to invest £140m to upgrade its services.
An overhaul of first class lounges - including at Edinburgh Waverley and the launch of a new menu designed by chef James Martin is being completed, while onboard entertainment and wi-fi services have also been improved.
'Positive response'
Between May and September, the number of passengers crossing the border in each direction on the east coast route grew by 7% compared to the same period last year.
The company said the timetable overhaul, which came into force in May, was the first major step in transforming east coast services between Edinburgh and London.
In December, Virgin will introduce a further three services on Sundays and a late-night service to Newcastle on Friday evenings.
