Vaccines saved about 20 million lives. A variant that completely evades vaccines would not be good.
It is unlikely anything will render vaccines completely ineffective, but it could make them much less effective.
That BA2.75.2 graph is on a logarithmic scale, not linear. It doesn't suggest 2.75.2 is just a bit better at evading immunity - we're talking orders of magnitude.
It's still early days, needs more data, bivalent vaccines should help, it could be weaker etc etc.
But there is good reason to be concerned, IMHO.

I would very much like it to go away but I feel very strongly that misunderstanding and downplaying the risks of this disease have been absolutely disastrous for humanity so I am perhaps a tad sensitive about it.

I watched him completely misunderstand an Ivermectin study and haven't bothered since.
He is not a medical doctor and even if he was, unfortunately a lot of medical doctors really don't understand this stuff.

BA.2.75.2 is worrying whether it is intriniscally more severe or not, because if it is better at evading immunity then the impact is as if it was more severe.

Say someone lobs two grenades at you - one of them hits a wall and bounces back, the other one goes over the wall and lands next to you. Even if the one next to you is actually less explosive, the effect is much worse.

Aether, it is mutating constantly. Each new variant, or sub-variant, or sub-sub-variant, includes different mutations.
The ones that survive and spread the most are more transmissible, but transmissibility also depends on levels of immunity, which can come from prior infection or from vaccines. Immunity wanes over time. So - the 'fittest' variant this winter will be completely different from the 'fittest' one last winter - because of the context it's operating in.

It's really very important to get across that 'less severe over time' and 'pandemics get weaker and go away' are FALSE. This is received wisdom which has produced terrible policies that killed a lot of people. It is possible for it to get 'weaker', as it did in the first Omicron wave. It is also possible for it to get more severe and kill a lot more people, as it did in the Delta wave.
