Iraqi Cabinet Panel Nears Kurdistan Deal, Report Due Today
ERBIL — A high-level Iraqi cabinet committee tasked with resolving persistent disputes with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is expected to submit its final report today, as negotiations edge closer to a breakthrough, according to a report by Baghdad Al-Youm.
The committee, formed earlier this month by the Iraqi Council of Ministers, is set to present its conclusions to the cabinet ahead of Tuesday’s session. An informed source told the outlet that major progress has been made on several contentious issues, including revenue sharing and public sector salaries.
“An agreement has been reached on the issue of domestic revenue and the handover of 50% of that revenue to Baghdad,” the source said, referring to KRG’s internal revenues collected from customs, taxes, and public services. The source also noted “a semi-agreement” on how to handle salary payments, particularly whether they will be disbursed through federal banking channels or continue via regional mechanisms.
