ERBIL — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has expressed strong support for ongoing dialogue between Erbil and Baghdad to resolve disputes and resume oil exports from the Kurdistan Region, according to an Iraqi lawmaker.

Mahma Khalil, a member of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, told BasNews that an Iraqi parliamentary delegation visited Turkey last week and met with Erdogan to discuss several regional issues.

Yesterday, a violent confrontation broke out in a village west of Erbil, involving RPGs, mortars, and other medium-grade weapons. New footage from July 2nd shows trucks carrying refined KRG oil products crossing into Iran via Sulaimani’s Bashmakh border, as exports resumed following the Iran-Israel war.

Notably, both the KDP and PUK are generating substantial revenue from refined oil products, which are sold at international prices, unlike crude oil, bringing in tens of millions of dollars each month.

Interestingly, the KRG Prime Minister’s economic advisor made no mention of revenue from refined products when he talked about the alleged revenue of KRG oil, suggesting that the usual Barzani- and Talabani-owned refineries are quietly pocketing the profits.

A statement by the regional government received by "Baghdad Today" said that "the discussions focused on two main issues: the resumption of the export of oil for the Kurdistan region through the company "SOMO", and the follow-up of the payment of salaries for the months of May and June to the employees of the region."

According to the statement, the Council of Ministers stressed that the region has fully fulfilled all its obligations and even exceeded them, and showed maximum flexibility and cooperation in order to resume oil exports through SOMO, and re-transfer the proceeds of sale to the Federal Ministry of Finance, stressing that, along with oil companies, the region showed full readiness to cooperate with the federal government in order to remove all pretexts and arguments used by Baghdad not to send salaries.

The Council noted that all parties are now awaiting a decision from the Federal Government to endorse the recently reached joint understandings, which were also attended by representatives of oil companies. He considered that with the resumption of exports, there will be no legal or financial justifications left before the Federal Ministry of Finance for not paying the region's dues, especially since all procedures related to employee salaries, the number of job grades, the monthly trial balance, the joint audit between the Federal and Regional Financial Audit Bureaus, and the transfer of local revenues have been fully completed by the regional government.

According to the source who told Baghdad Today, "The anticipated contact will culminate in an official understanding stipulating the release of May salaries for the region's employees, with the payments to be made tomorrow, after the Sudanese Prime Minister signs the decision directly."
