The incessant rampers are in my view. Much more likely to lose people money on any stock.

Regardless of whether you are on a 'side' or not, and if you are whose side, the daily price movements are meaningless unless you are looking to buy or sell imminently. If a deal is signed this will absolutely rocket, if not it will waste away to nothing. There really isn't an in between so getting all hot and bothered about daily movements in share price just seems a colossal waste of energy to me - or people just spoiling for a fight.

It certainly seems to have been a night of the long knives. Probably a good thing given the recent performance and the new CFO looks well suited to the position.

Less encouraging is the perfunctory TU (after IR apparently said they weren't giving one at all) although it did suggest they were within the previous, downgraded guidance so at least things aren't getting any worse.

The abruptness of the trading update suggests to me either complete contempt towards shareholders or there is something major going on in the background that they are focused on - hopefully the latter and we hear about a bid or something else soon.

Otherwise it looks like we won't get a pre-close update now (unless it departs from latest guidance) and so any detail on what's going on with revenue, margins or the business generally will have to wait until the FY report in May.

How on earth do you come to that conclusion? BTC is down, transaction fees are down and difficulty is up. Results are guaranteed to be much worse than December. At least do a tiny bit of research before ramping.

Bfd - I agree it is probably the right decision (they will have done the numbers after all) and that their staff costs will reduce, perhaps by around £12m per year as you suggest.

My point was simply that those staff costs went up by the same £12m per year to run the warehouse in the first place. So looking at in totality they increased salary costs by £12m pa, spent £17m (say) one-off cost and now are reducing that salary cost back down to zero. So overall cost £17m and no impact on ongoing costs apart from a temporary £12m pa increase which was hopefully mostly offset by increased revenues.

So I agree it looks like they are better off closing it than keeping it going but that will never ‘pay back’ the £17m - just means that they won’t lose any more.

It’s just something that didn’t quite work out and they moved on or that was just always going to a short-short solution and they were happy at the cost for it to be so.

You're right that I've never run a company, I've just supplied the numbers to people that do and advised them. Apart from that you know nothing else about me and I'm very happy for it to stay that way. I see you're slipping back into petulant child mode. Seems to be your comfort zone. Enjoy.

SCB - It's clear this conversation is a bit over your head - as most of them appear to be and once again you haven't understood what I'm saying. I'm not going to try to explain it to you though as it would be as fruitless and frustrating as it always is - for me and everybody else. I would filter you but your frequent nonsense sometimes ought to be challenged plus it's quite amusing watching you go down rabbit holes of your own making and ending up arguing against yourself.

Not sure you quite meant to phrase it like that? They sunk up to £50m in this (though probably quite a bit less as you suggest) but presumably the 400 jobs to serve it were additional? So all the cutting of those jobs will do now is simply remove a cost that wasn't there before not a 'saving' compared to pre-Daventry or against the sunk costs.

Net result is that the venture will have cost them some money that they won't get back whether that's £5m, £25m or whatever. It sounds the right move to do now but only in the sense they are cutting their losses not that overall it has been a benefit.
