PS - If the link by default puts you to a pay wall, then try googling "Chilean Lithium Nationalisation" and click on the seeking alpha article. The same invitation to sign in appears, but you can scroll through the article. It gives a brief summary of previous history - Chilean President Allende's nationalisation of copper, how that didn't work well, and the situation today re lithium. More importantly the enormous pressure that the US likely will bring to bear, given that good access to lithium is needed for Biden's green push for Americans to switch to EVs. The SeekingAlpha author seems to recommend "holding for now" and that he might take a high risk-reward punt on Albemarle this morning.
In my mind the fact remains that CTL is different to Albemarle in that (after re-reading RNSs from the recent past) CTL seems to only have exploration licences for their concessions and not exploitation licences so I imagine development of the sites is not covered by Boric's assurance that he will "respect existing licences", given CTL still need to apply for exploitation licences. On the other hand Aldo, the CEO & biggest investor is Chilean, and so far CTL seems to be almost the poster-boy for how the government would like mining companies to approach lithium extraction. CTL also seems to have a very positive relationship with individuals in the Chilean government. The big question for us is "hold, increase, or sell?". I sold at opening bell Friday at just over 52p, but because I really want to stay invested in such a great Company bought back in 90 minutes later at 43p. However, the outlook is still concerning, and without any RNS clarification appearing this morning it's going to be a hard call whether to stay fully invested on the assumption that the worst of the fall is over, or to de-risk until the outlook becomes clearer. Personally I suspect that it all depends on whether any of the bigger holders decide to place their investment elsewhere, but it seemed they held their nerve on Friday. GLA.
