.....Aussie/rand - looks like gearing up for a move lower. Will result in a big currency gain in next set of accounts (reversing last quarters losses)

I think this is good. Bit of a shake and filled gap from Friday. Buying coming into JSE and some buys not reported yet in London :-)

JSE closed 7.5% higher above August highs. Looks good to me

Good post, but with Chinese buying stake in Makhado, would you not use implied value for whole of Makhado I.e. $335m?

Market cap was £875m in 2008. Also add on market cap of universal that peaked at 116m Aus. Imagine that figure for universal would be higher since coal now up 50% since deal and developments there also suggest this is a bargain.

Also some chat that Adani may walk away from huge coal project in Australia due to long delays from environmental challenges to project. Not affect us too much but might affect supply dynamics going forward

Also india might start taxing petroleum coke imports and this might force consumers to switch to thermal coal, therefore increasing imports, potentially from Richards Bay. European coal closed higher today, it's 10th successive bullish close. And the strength of coal is across the entire curve. European stocks are at their lowest in almost two years, and Richards Bay stocks are lows ahead of 10 days of rail line maintenance.

Underlying up another 2% today. Stocks are Richards Bay are getting tight ahead of rail closure in 10 days. Crude up too. All helps. This is lovely, quite lovely. Daily moves higher without too much attention. Close above 5p and 100 ZAr important, particularly as continues Friday-Monday moves.

Another cheeky 8%, a lot but enough to keep under the radar. Cracking close and highest close since August last year. Technically top side opening up, and can have a run at double figures. Also, S&P have retain South Africa's investment grade credit rating and rand strengthening on this. Will help at the margin.

Another strong day in Richards Bay. Up another 2.5%. Since UC deal signed the underlying coal price is up 40%. Mooiplaats and Vele now must be viable options. With UC and Makhado we're 9.8mt year, turning into a force. No idea how to value company post merger. Anyone?

Spoke to company yesterday, full steam ahead for 24 June. Nice to see weekly close above 4p and 100 ZAr. It's been a great week and hopefully nudging up each day we can go under the radar for a while longer

Also underlying coal market up 2% today.

One last push into close and technically pretty awesome if settles above 4p. Technically and fundamentals lining up and lots of blue sky. Could be double figures fairly quickly
