The Cadastres give the location of our licences and show who our neighbours are. In Cote d'Ivoire we have acreage next to at least three active and acquisitive companies. NB I have not looked at everyone yet.
You can see from the current work programme of two of them that their work shows the trends continuing into our acreage. You may not think that is important but I do. I am in other companies with acreage in Canada (pre-IPO) and the thing they all want to know is; what are our neighbours up to.
If all around other companies are doing deals, acquiring acreage and actively drilling that it is very good news. It means likely we are at least in the right post code, particularly if they are following trends.
You are right about commitments; the annual licence fees are usually de minimis, it is the work programme where the spend is. Which is why it is important that other companies might want to do JVs. The typical earn in is a bit of cash up front (useful) and a spend that meets the work programme spend plus a bit for agreed percentages of the JV. Ideally, you would look to do a deal with someone who might want to take you out later if the work programme gives a half decent result.
