It's not so much "ifs" more a matter of "whens". Having said that I am glad I stepped out for a decade and then came back. I'd have gone mad otherwise...

Makes sense to install in flats, or else you end up with paying for someone who wastes water. plus India do have a water supply problem. They literally "export" much of their water in cash crops
