RE: Sona timeline - how is our closest antigen test competitor doing?12 Jun 2020 22:53
DM83, demand is likely to completely outstrip supply.
The Canadian Gov (via NGen) gave a 4.1million CAD grant to Sona Nanotech. it's non-repayable, however I understand there to be some sort of clause which says the Canadians get first refusal on test purchases.
I can't find the source now so perhaps somebody else can confirm. It stands to reason though that if the Gov put that much money in, there will be something which stops Sona shipping tests off to other countries before Canada's own needs can be met.
The best I can come up with is the below quote for the time being as don't have time to do further digging right now.
"NGen is excited to support Sona Nanotech's efforts to get a point of-care test for COVID-19 in the hands of Canadian medical authorities as soon as possible. Sona's proprietary and unique gold nanorod technology enables a rapid-response antigen test that has the potential to significantly reduce the time-to-results for COVID-19 diagnosis and ultimately save lives."
