Interestingly from the VW interview they spoke of having an IPO for the new business. This would be separate from the VW core business and possibly called something else entirely. The business would possibly not only supply VW with finished product but also anyone else who wanted it and because of this they wouldn't violate anti-competion rules. By selling the batteries at full value this would enable them to be very cost-competitive wrt their own ev costs. Food for thought

Sid, that exact thing crossed my mind earlier today. It would make sense for both groups. However, I don't think emh would do as well out of this. I keep thinking of the ganfeng/bcn scenario and the "offer". No mistake we will be bought out at some point but I don't want to be trampled over in order to give the 49% ownership away

Hydrogen is a highly volatile gas. It does not need a source of ignition to combust, a rough surface is sufficient to ignite and it burns with a flame you can't see. I wouldn't touch a hydrogen powered car if you gave it to me foc.

Fwiw, we keep seeing research papers where other technologies are being developed or sodium, aluminium and magnesium ion batteries but the kicker is that lithium is the lightest alkali metal in the periodic table and hence no matter how good the new tech is weight of the elements (or battery) is heavier than the lithium equivalent. From an ev perspective this will be the kicker but I agree for home storage etc it probably will be the route thing will go.

Doing "the math" and the numbers are staggering......however, they always are on juniors but even if we only get to participate in a fraction of it then we'll all do nicely.

Solarworld own(ed) 50%
Znwd own the other 50%. Of this bcn own 44% of znwld. Is this correct?

Ant, the danger here though is that it's ganfeng we're talking about here. They are not some kind of two-bit outfit that have appeared out of the blue. It's puzzling to me as to why bcn have welcomed this move because from what I've read they raised not too long ago and the proceeds towards that ensured the Sonora project moving forward. As to Europe, this is potentially their foot in the door. It will be interesting how this proceeds. But, you can bet your bottom dollar that if this scenario was reversed wrt a European company trying to gain a foothold in China it would be kicked into touch swiftly...

The question then is, why would they set this up to control 70% of erris?
