Best advice I've heard so far is "don't be TOO greedy" . Emotions are difficult to supress - waiting for a cheaper price before buying or even waiting for a higher price before selling. As a friend said, "It's roulette but you choose when the wheel stops spinning, unless the company goes bust or is bought out"
